TV-Series
Description
Dr. Mikhail Pavlichenko is a supporting character in the narrative, serving as the father of the twin protagonists, Suou and Shion Pavlichenko. A scientist of Russian nationality, he lives with his children in Vladivostok following his divorce from his Japanese wife, Asako Nakimiya. His professional standing is that of a leading authority in his field, heading a research institute focused on studies related to a phenomenon referred to as ME.

In his personal life, Dr. Pavlichenko exhibits a notably cold and strict demeanor toward his daughter, Suou. He frequently scolds her and physically pulls her away when she spends what he considers too much time with her twin brother, Shion. This harshness stems from his belief that ordinary people can be harmed by associating with Contractors, the emotionless beings with supernatural powers. Since Shion became a Contractor two years prior to the main events, Mikhail has isolated him, treating him as a near-complete shut-in to minimize his contact with the outside world. Despite this distant and scientific approach to his son's condition, he still harbors a degree of paternal affection for both children, which manifests in complicated ways.

His primary motivation is driven by a deep-seated guilt and a desire to reverse a personal tragedy. Before the story begins, his biological daughter, the original Suou, was killed in an explosion during an internal conflict within his organization. Consumed by grief and exhibiting the obsessive traits of a mad scientist, he used his expertise in memory manipulation technology, combined with his son Shion’s ability to replicate anything, to create a clone of his daughter. He inserted fabricated memories into this new body, intending to resurrect the child he had lost. He sees this created Suou not as a copy, but as the true Suou brought back to life through a combination of his own scientific prowess and Shion's power.

Early in the story, Dr. Pavlichenko appears to be killed during a raid on his home by Russian security forces and the assassin Hei. However, it is later revealed that this death was a deception; the man killed was a decoy or copy. Mikhail had faked his death to continue his work in secret, and he later reunites with the real Shion in Tokyo. His key relationships are fraught with complexity. With Shion, he collaborates on a grand, obscure plan involving the ME technology. With Suou, his relationship evolves from cold distance to a tragic reconciliation. When they meet again at an aquarium, he confirms to her the truth of her origins as a clone, affirming that despite this, she is truly alive. He shows annoyance, however, with his ex-wife Asako for revealing this information to Suou.

His role in the story culminates during a confrontation with a Contractor working for Section 3. While trying to escape with Suou, he is mortally wounded by a spear of wind that severs an artery in his leg. As he bleeds to death, he shares a final, somber conversation with Suou, after which she positions his body in a dignified pose and leaves an origami sculpture with him before departing. His scientific abilities are his primary tools; he is an expert in brain research and memory manipulation, possessing extensive knowledge of Contractors and the capacity to create advanced technology like the memory exerciser. He is also the one who originally taught Suou how to handle a rifle, a skill that becomes central to her own survival.
