TV-Series
Description
Dr. Hajime Amami is a central supporting character in the series, defined by his dual role as a pioneering scientist and the grief-stricken father of the protagonist, Kurau. A man of great intelligence and a kind disposition, his life was irrevocably altered by a catastrophic accident at his own laboratory in the year 2100. As a researcher in the field of alternative energy, he was on the verge of a major breakthrough with a new form of power known as Rynax. On his daughter Kurau’s twelfth birthday, he brought her to witness an experiment, a decision that led to tragedy when the Rynax energy was unleashed, striking Kurau and fusing her with two sentient energy beings. This event created a Ryna sapien, transforming his daughter into something no longer entirely human.

In the aftermath of the accident, Hajime is consumed by a profound sense of guilt and responsibility. He is a dedicated father who loves his daughter deeply, but he is also a man of science, and this conflict defines his personality. He is kind and gentle, but the weight of what happened has made him somber and driven. He does not reject the new being that has taken on his daughter's name and identity; rather, he accepts her as his child while working tirelessly to find a cure or a way to reverse the fusion, hoping to restore the daughter he feels he lost. This drive to fix the past is the core of his motivation. He is physically damaged as well, having suffered his own encounter with the Rynax force at some point, which silently reinforces his connection to the very phenomenon that fractured his family.

Dr. Amami’s role in the story evolves from that of the architect of a catastrophe to a quiet, behind-the-scenes protector. Following the accident, he remains within the scientific establishment, but he is placed under the control of the Global Police Organization, or GPO. He is coerced into continuing his research, specifically to help develop weapons designed to neutralize and capture Ryna-sapiens like his daughter. This places him in a harrowing position, forced to work on a project that could lead to his own child's destruction. To counter this, he acts from within, using his position and resources to secretly guard Kurau. He is the client who hires the freelance agent Doug to keep surveillance on Kurau and her Rynax pair, Christmas, and to help them evade the GPO. Hajime thus operates as a tragic figure, leveraging the very system that imprisons him to ensure his daughter's survival.

The most significant relationship in Hajime’s life is, naturally, with his daughter, Kurau. The accident created an unspoken distance between them, filled with his guilt and her understanding of his pain. He struggles to reconcile his memory of the human girl she was with the powerful Ryna sapien she has become. His relationship with other characters is defined by this central predicament. He works with Doug as a client, trusting the former GPO agent to carry out tasks he cannot do himself. He is also a reluctant asset of the GPO, a relationship built on subterfuge and mutual exploitation.

Over the course of the narrative, Hajime Amami experiences a subtle but significant development. He begins as a man paralyzed by a past mistake, desperately seeking a way to reverse it. As the series progresses, and as he witnesses Kurau’s strength and her profound bond with Christmas, his perspective shifts. His journey is one of learning to accept the new reality rather than simply trying to undo it. While the initial goal is to find a cure, his actions increasingly focus on protection and ensuring his daughter’s freedom, acknowledging the person she has become rather than clinging to the ghost of who she was. He moves from a state of passive guilt to a more active, though still precarious, form of atonement through direct intervention.

Regarding notable abilities, Hajime Amami does not possess the superhuman powers of a Ryna sapien. His strengths are entirely intellectual and academic. He is a brilliant researcher with deep expert knowledge of Rynax energy, which makes him invaluable and dangerous enough for the GPO to forcibly employ him. His primary ability is his scientific expertise, which he wields as both a weapon against the creatures he helped unleash and a shield to protect his daughter from those who would hunt her.
