Description
In the anime Slayers Revolution, Ducuris is a character whose past is deeply intertwined with the fate of the kingdom of Taforashia. Originally a human and a friend to the royal family, he and the kingdom's prince, Pokota, were close allies. When the deadly Durum sickness swept through Taforashia, they worked together to try and save the people. However, the illness spread too quickly. The legendary priest Rezo intervened, placing all the citizens of Taforashia into a magical slumber to preserve them until a cure could be found. To allow Ducuris and Pokota to move freely in search of a remedy without being affected by the plague, Rezo transferred their spirits into new, bestial forms. Ducuris was placed into the body of a large, imposing beastman with the features of a gray tiger or white tiger, a form that is extremely muscular and stands a head taller than the tall swordsman Gourry Gabriev.

Ducuris is a character driven by desperation and a profound sense of duty to his people. His primary motivation is the salvation of the sleeping residents of Taforashia, but his methods place him in direct opposition to the series' protagonists. Convinced that no one else is taking effective action to save his kingdom, he makes the difficult and morally ambiguous choice to ally himself with the powerful neighboring nation of Ruvinagald and its marquess, Gioconda. This alliance stems from a belief that Ruvinagald's resources provide the only viable path forward, despite the marquess's exploitative intentions toward his homeland. His personality is marked by a grim resolve and a growing fatalism. He watches as the world ignores Taforashia's plight and as Gioconda embezzles foreign aid meant for his people, leading him to conclude that humanity's path is one of self-destruction. Rather than fight against this current, he decides to entrust everything to fate, concluding that if destiny demands the world's destruction, then he will accept that outcome.

In the story of Slayers Revolution, Ducuris serves as a formidable antagonist and a tragic foil to Prince Pokota. He first confronts Lina Inverse and her group in the king's mansion of Taforashia, acting as a guard for Gioconda. His key relationship is with Pokota, whose determined but less extreme efforts to save their kingdom stand in stark contrast to Ducuris's pragmatic and violent path. His most significant relationship with a non-Taforashian character is with Gioconda, whom he eventually betrays upon discovering the full extent of her treachery. His development throughout the series is a tragic descent and a partial redemption. He takes the drastic step of activating the incomplete magical armor known as Zanaffar that Gioconda wears, allowing the demonic entity to fully consume her and be reborn. He then forges a pact with the perfect Zanaffar, agreeing to let it destroy every nation that ignored Taforashia in exchange for creating more of its kind.

Ducuris's own Zanaffar armor, which he wears, begins to merge with his body as a consequence of his actions, gradually transforming him into a centaur-like creature and eroding his human consciousness. In his final moments, his humanity resurfaces. He turns against Zanaffar, using his own strength to buy time for Lina and her allies to launch a decisive attack on the beast. After Zanaffar's defeat, with his body almost completely consumed, he approaches Pokota and asks his prince to pass judgment and kill him, believing it to be a final lesson in the burden of leadership. When Pokota cannot bring himself to do it, Ducuris is given a different and perhaps more difficult fate: to live on, bearing the weight of the lives he has taken. He leaves Taforashia in Pokota's hands, his ultimate fate uncertain but marked by a final act of defiance against the fatalism to which he had surrendered.

In terms of notable abilities, Ducuris is a formidable physical fighter. He wields a massive battleaxe as his primary weapon. His principal source of power, however, is his incomplete Zanaffar armor, which grants him near-imperviousness to most forms of magic, making him a significant threat to sorcerers like Lina Inverse. He also possesses a few magical talents, such as the ability to cast low-level spells like lighting the tip of a staff, and a physical attack known as Laser Breath. While his strength is considerable, it is not absolute; his armor can be cracked by powerful magical weapons, such as the replica of the Sword of Light carried by Pokota.
