Description
Momo Hinamori is a lieutenant of the Fifth Division within the Gotei 13, the military organization of the Soul Society. She has a petite stature, with black hair typically tied up in a bun secured by a piece of light blue cloth, and two strands of hair hanging on each side of her face. Her eyes are brown. She wears the standard shinigami uniform, with a division badge on her arm.

Hinamori grew up in Junrinan, the first district of the Rukongai, alongside Toshiro Hitsugaya. The two formed a close bond during childhood, with Hinamori often acting in an older-sisterly manner toward him, and she affectionately calls him Shiro-chan. Despite the difference in their ranks later on, this friendship remains important to both of them.

At the Shinigami Academy, Hinamori excelled in kidō, the art of demon magic. There she met and became close friends with Izuru Kira and Renji Abarai, who would later become lieutenants of other divisions. After graduation, she joined the Fifth Division under Captain Sōsuke Aizen and his lieutenant Gin Ichimaru. She worked hard to eventually become the division’s lieutenant herself.

Hinamori’s personality is warm, cheerful, and easygoing. She gets along with almost everyone and is known for her kindness and sincerity. However, she is also impulsive and overly trusting, especially toward those she admires. Her greatest flaw is her deep and unwavering devotion to her former captain, Sōsuke Aizen. She idolized him to the point of refusing to accept that he had betrayed Soul Society, even after the evidence became undeniable. This blind loyalty drives much of her early story conflict, leading her to attack her own friends, including Toshiro Hitsugaya, and to try to confront Gin Ichimaru.

Her motivations are rooted in a desire to protect what she believes is right and to stay true to those she loves, but she is easily manipulated due to her naivety. Over time, after Aizen’s true nature is revealed and she survives being gravely wounded by him, she begins to grow past her idealization. She retains her position as Fifth Division lieutenant under the new captain, Shinji Hirako, and shows greater emotional resilience in the later arcs.

Her key relationships include her childhood friend Toshiro Hitsugaya, who remains protective of her despite the strain caused by the Aizen incident; her former classmates Izuru Kira and Renji Abarai, who share a protective concern for her; and Rangiku Matsumoto, a close friend with whom she shares many personal moments. Hinamori also has a warm bond with her grandmother, whom she frequently visits in the Rukongai with Hitsugaya.

Regarding abilities, Hinamori is a skilled kidō practitioner, able to use and combine multiple spells effectively. Her zanpakutō is named Tobiume, which translates to “flying plum tree.” Its release command is “snap” or “burn” depending on the translation. In its shikai form, Tobiume transforms into a rod-like blade with several branch-like protrusions. It concentrates her spiritual power into energy bursts or spheres that she can launch at enemies, making it a kidō-type weapon. Her skill in kidō is particularly notable: she can combine spells like Bakudō #26 Kyakko, Bakudō #12 Fushibi, and Hadō #31 Shakkahō to create traps and layered attacks. She also possesses solid skills in swordsmanship and shunpo (flash step), though she is not among the top-tier fighters in those areas. Her reiatsu is significant, comparable to other lieutenants. During the fight against the Arrancar, she demonstrated tactical thinking by holding her ground against multiple opponents and setting up a kidō-based trap that led to her victory.
