Yasutora Sado, almost universally known by his nickname Chad, is a towering teenager of Japanese and Mexican descent and a close friend of Ichigo Kurosaki. Chad acquired his nickname because Ichigo initially read the kanji of his family name, Sado, as "Chado," which was then shortened. Born in Okinawa, Chad was taken to Mexico by his parents at a young age. After they died, he was adopted and raised by his grandfather, Oscar Joaquin de la Rosa, whom Chad affectionately calls "Abuelo". During his early years in Mexico, Chad was extremely violent, using his immense size to intimidate and hurt anyone who annoyed him. His life changed when his grandfather took a severe beating intended for Chad without once fighting back. Inspired by this act, Chad vowed to never use his fists for himself again and that he would only fight to protect others. To seal this promise, Abuelo gave him an old Mexican coin, which Chad treasures above his own life. After Abuelo's death, Chad returned to Japan to begin his high school life.

Personality-wise, Chad is a man of few words, possessing a quiet, stoic, and remarkably kind heart. Despite his intimidating size and appearance, he is gentle and will never fight back against ordinary humans or bullies, honoring his promise to his grandfather. He is fiercely loyal, especially to Ichigo, with whom he shares a deep bond formed before the series began when Ichigo helped him protect Abuelo's coin from thugs. At that moment, they made a pact to fight for each other, and Chad has been protecting Ichigo's back ever since. He has a notable weakness for cute things and is one of the few characters who treats the mod soul Kon with any dignity. Despite his quiet nature, Chad is highly intelligent, ranking 11th in his class academically, which is even higher than Ichigo's ranking.

After being critically defeated by the Arrancar Yammy, he recognizes his weakness and trains to achieve a stronger, second form of his right arm, learning the powerful attack El Directo. Later, in the hostile environment of Hueco Mundo, his powers fully mature, manifesting armor on both arms. His right arm becomes a powerful defensive shield known as the Brazo Derecha de Gigante, while his left arm becomes an equally powerful offensive weapon called the Brazo Izquierda del Diablo, capable of a devastating blow named La Muerte. Despite his growth, he often faces opponents far above his level, such as Captain Shunsui Kyoraku and the Espada Nnoitora, which reinforces his role as a determined but sometimes outmatched human in a world of gods. Following the main conflict, it is shown that Chad fulfills his potential as a fighter in the human world, becoming a professional boxer contending for the WBO World Heavyweight Title.

Chad's notable abilities are rooted in his Fullbring, which centers on the pride he has in his own skin. His primary ability is the Brazo Derecha de Gigante, which encases his right arm in a powerful black and red armored gauntlet. This arm is used for both defense and offense, capable of firing energy blasts. His signature technique, El Directo, involves the flanges on the arm opening up to release a devastating, concentrated punch. After his power evolves in Hueco Mundo, the Brazo Derecha de Gigante transforms primarily into a large, shield-like form for defensive purposes. Simultaneously, his left arm manifests the Brazo Izquierda del Diablo, a more demonic, white and red armored arm with spikes, used exclusively for high-powered offensive strikes. Its special attack, La Muerte, gathers spiritual energy into his five fingertips before he clenches his fist and delivers a punch so powerful it leaves a skull-shaped imprint on the surface behind his target. In this state, he can also move at high speeds comparable to the Arrancar's Sonido. Even without his Fullbring, Chad possesses incredible raw physical strength and endurance, able to lift 400 kilograms with ease and survive being hit by a steel beam or a motorcycle.
