Description
Coyote Starrk is the Primera Espada, holding the rank of number one within the group of powerful Arrancar serving under Sōsuke Aizen. His past is defined by overwhelming strength. In life as a Hollow, his spiritual pressure was so immense that weaker Hollows would have their souls eroded and simply die by being near him. This forced him into a state of total isolation, wandering the desert of Hueco Mundo without any companions. Envying the weak for their ability to coexist, his deepest wish was to find others who could withstand his power. To escape his profound loneliness, he took the extraordinary step of splitting his own soul into two separate beings: himself and Lilynette Gingerback. This act makes him one of the very few natural Arrancar, having removed his mask without external aid. Later, he and Lilynette were encountered and recruited by Aizen, an offer Starrk accepted hoping to finally have the strong companions he always desired. His aspect of death is Solitude.

In personality, Starrk stands in stark contrast to many of his fellow Espada. He is habitually lazy, unmotivated, and unenthusiastic, often seen napping or complaining about having to exert himself. He detests conflict and is not driven by a desire for power, revenge, or a wish to prove his superiority. When forced to fight, he often does so reluctantly and, despite his rank, shows a notable tendency to hold back and even offers his opponents chances to retreat. Unlike the arrogance displayed by others, Starrk is remarkably observant and an excellent battlefield analyst, quickly deducing his opponents' abilities. However, his lethargic exterior masks a deep-seated care for his comrades, particularly Lilynette. While he initially claims indifference to the deaths of other Arrancar, the fall of his allies and Aizen's cold disregard for them visibly affect his motivation and resolve. He shares a unique dynamic with Lilynette; she is more hot-headed and aggressive, often physically abusing him to spur him into action, yet their bond is the most significant relationship in his existence. He also develops an unspoken mutual respect with Captain Shunsui Kyōraku, whose similarly laid-back yet deadly demeanour mirrors his own.

Starrk’s role in the story is primarily as a major antagonist during the Fake Karakura Town arc, where he battles several of the Gotei 13's strongest captains. He is sent with Aizen to destroy the town and confronts Kyōraku, later also fighting Jūshirō Ukitake and the Visored captains Love Aikawa and Rōjūrō Ōtoribashi. His development in this final battle is central to his character arc. Initially fighting without seriousness, the death of the second Espada, Baraggan, and Aizen’s silent indifference shake him deeply. He loses his will to fight, feeling that his dream of having comrades is meaningless if they are treated as disposable tools. After being convinced by Lilynette to continue, he resolves to protect his remaining allies, not out of revenge, but to prevent further loss. Ultimately, in his final confrontation with Kyōraku, his attack wolves are all destroyed, causing Lilynette to vanish. With his other half gone, Starrk returns to solitude, seeing a fleeting reflection of his past just before Kyōraku deals the fatal blow. He accepts his death, collapsing from the sky, a tragic figure who gained companionship only to lose it once more.

Notably, Starrk’s abilities are intrinsically tied to his unique origin. Unlike other Arrancar whose power is sealed within a Zanpakutō blade, Starrk’s true power is sealed within Lilynette herself. His base form already grants him immense Hierro, speed, and the ability to fire a powerful, blue Cero from his chest with almost no motion, faster and stronger than most others. His Resurrección is triggered by the command Kick, which causes him to merge with Lilynette. This form, called Los Lobos, transforms him into a gunslinger-like figure wielding a pair of flintlock pistols that are formed from Lilynette. In this state, he can use Cero Metralleta, an ability that lets him fire a storm of hundreds or even thousands of rapid-fire Ceros from his pistols. His ultimate technique is also named Los Lobos, where he splits his own soul into a large pack of autonomous, wolf-like missiles. These wolves are incredibly dangerous; they can reform after physical attacks and home in on enemies to bite them, resulting in massive explosions. However, this power has a severe cost: the number of wolves is finite, and when every wolf is destroyed, Lilynette disappears permanently. In close-quarters combat within this form, he can materialize the blades of his guns as energy swords called Colmillo.
