Description
Giriko Kutsuzawa is a character from the manga and anime series Bleach, where he appears as a member of the mysterious organization known as Xcution. He is a Fullbringer, a human with the ability to manipulate the souls contained in physical objects.

In appearance, Giriko is a tall, middle-aged man with a solid build. He has short dark hair, brown eyes, and a thick, prominent mustache. His attire is distinctive, typically consisting of a shirt, a dark waistcoat, and a bow tie, an outfit reminiscent of a bartender. He carries a cane and wears a dark, leather-like strap over his right eye.

Giriko's personality is multi-faceted, beginning with a calm and direct demeanor. He is usually taciturn and speaks in a matter-of-fact manner, often remaining unfazed by the outbursts of his more excitable comrades, such as Riruka Dokugamine. By his own admission, he initially followed the Xcution leader, Kūgo Ginjō, because he was charmed by him. Despite this composed exterior, Giriko harbors a darker and more ruthless side. In his past, he cruelly used his power to kill his own wife as an experiment to test its limits, only regretting the act after it was too late. His true nature is revealed to be boastful and arrogant, particularly after he receives a portion of Ichigo Kurosaki's power, causing him to become overconfident and underestimate his opponents.

The background of Giriko is closely tied to a family heirloom: an antique gold pocket watch. Known in the Kutsuzawa family as the Good Luck Watch, it was passed down to him after his father died of illness. For years, Giriko revered the watch as a god. After two decades, he realized the watch's power was not a blessing but a curse, with the true ability to kill without physical contact. He killed his wife using only the watch, but when he lost his nerve and wished to stop the killing, the power backfired, costing him his right eye. He came to understand that he had not made a prayer to a god but had entered into a binding contract.

In the story, Giriko serves as a supporting antagonist in the Lost Substitute Shinigami arc. As a member of Xcution, he plays a role in the plan to restore Ichigo Kurosaki's lost Soul Reaper powers, which would simultaneously empower the Fullbringers. Initially, he acts as the group's bartender at their headquarters, observing the interactions between Ichigo and his comrades. He is shown to be on friendly terms with Yasutora Sado (Chad), addressing him respectfully and asking for his help with errands.

The dynamics of his key relationships evolve throughout the arc. He is loyal to Kūgo Ginjō, though this loyalty is partly influenced by Tsukishima's reality-altering abilities. When Ginjō ultimately betrays the group by taking all of Ichigo's power for himself, Giriko is furious, accusing him of breaking their pact to share. His most significant confrontation is with the Soul Reaper captain Kenpachi Zaraki. After receiving an enhancement from Ichigo's power, Giriko's arrogance reaches its peak. He uses his Fullbring to transform into a hulking, muscular giant, boasting that his contract for "brutal strengthening of power" makes him unmatched. His development ends abruptly here, as Kenpachi dismisses him as a boring small fry and kills him with a single cut, proving that Giriko's overconfidence was his undoing. Following his death, his body and pocket watch are discovered and buried by his fellow Fullbringer, Jackie Tristan.

Beyond the main arc, Giriko makes a brief appearance in the final story arc and is featured in the light novel Bleach: Can't Fear Your Own World. In the novel, he reappears alongside Ginjō and displays a sharp, spiteful attitude toward Kenpachi, the man who killed him. He also continues to refine his powers, discovering a method to offer sacrifices to the god of time to greatly enhance his abilities, allowing him to match opponents of significant strength.

Giriko's notable abilities all stem from his Fullbring, which he calls Time Tells No Lies. Using his pocket watch as a medium, he can place "timers" on people or objects, attaching specific conditions to them that cannot be broken. Once set, even Giriko himself cannot deactivate the timer. If the terms of the timer are violated, the affected target and its surrounding area will be consumed by the "flames of time". In combat, he can also use a technique called Number Attack, where he releases glowing numbers from the watch's face and directs them as explosive projectiles at his enemies. After gaining a portion of Ichigo's Fullbring, his powers evolve significantly. He dons white armor resembling clock hands, with floating clocks orbiting him. By turning a knob labeled "3" on his shoulder, he can activate his Empowered Form, transforming into an enormous, muscular being of greenish hue. This form was intended to grant him overwhelming physical strength through a simplified contract with his god, though its true potential was never realized in his fatal fight with Kenpachi.
