Description
Noba is a modified soul known as a Bount sensor, created by Kisuke Urahara to assist in tracking the Bount, a race of artificial beings. In his artificial human body, known as a Gigai, Noba appears as a young man with a slim build, short red hair, and green eyes. He wears a distinctive fur coat and a mask with a zipper that reveals part of his face. Outside of his Gigai, he inhabits an anthropomorphic turtle plushie dressed in grey trousers, a white ruffled shirt, and a red bow tie. Noba is notably quiet and shy, rarely speaking more than a few words, and will zip his hood closed or pull his head into his shirt when embarrassed. He is partnered with Yasutora Sado, often called Chad, and the two share a similarly reserved demeanor.
Noba’s primary motivation is to fulfill his role as a sensor, using his abilities to help Urahara and the main group during the Bount conflict. His role in the story is as a supporting character who provides reconnaissance and tactical support. He is one of three modified souls introduced during the anime-only Bount arc, alongside Ririn and Kurudo, and later appears in the background of early Arrancar saga episodes. His key relationships include his creator, Kisuke Urahara, who designed him for a specific purpose; his partner Chad, with whom he works closely; and the other modified souls, though he interacts with them infrequently. Noba experiences little personal development over the course of the series, remaining a consistent, quiet, and helpful presence.
Noba’s most notable ability is teleportation. He can teleport himself and others to nearly any location he has previously visited, and he can use his spiritual sense to teleport to individuals with spiritual power. He can also create wormholes that redirect ranged physical or energy attacks back at the attacker, and he has the capacity to absorb fire. When in his plushie form, his teleportation range is limited to about two meters. These powers make him valuable for repositioning allies and deflecting enemy attacks, but he rarely takes a direct role in combat.
