Description
Mizuiro Kojima is a student at Karakura High School who sits in the same class as Ichigo Kurosaki. He has a youthful appearance with short black hair parted down the middle, green eyes, and a stray bang that fans out at the tips. His boyish face and gentle, respectful manner of speaking sometimes unsettle his friend Keigo Asano, though Mizuiro’s calm demeanor and sharp mind make him a reliable presence among Ichigo’s group of close friends.

His background is marked by a lonely childhood. Mizuiro’s parents are rarely home due to their busy schedules, which led him to develop an inverted personality and suffer from depression before he formed meaningful friendships. He seldom sees his parents, and his relationship with his mother is particularly strained; he does not refer to her as such and reacts negatively when she contacts him. As a result, he learned to rely on others for the domestic warmth he lacked — he has a well-known fondness for older women, often charming them into cooking homemade meals for him. This tendency, along with his ability to attract multiple romantic interests at once, frequently frustrates Keigo, who is envious of Mizuiro’s social ease. Mizuiro’s motivations are not grand or heroic; he seeks connection and stability. He values the friendships he has built, especially with Keigo and Ichigo, and he shows genuine loyalty to them. Despite his quiet exterior, he is not afraid to confront danger when necessary.

In the story, Mizuiro functions as a supportive friend within the human-world cast. He does not possess supernatural combat abilities like a Soul Reaper, but he is fully spiritually aware: he can see ghosts and Hollows and witnessed the departure of Uryū Ishida, Yasutora Sado, and Ichigo to Hueco Mundo. His key relationships are with Keigo Asano, who was his first real friend, and with Ichigo Kurosaki, who was the first person Mizuiro ever fully opened up to. The bond with Ichigo is especially significant because it allowed Mizuiro to overcome his isolation. His development is subtle but meaningful: from a depressed, withdrawn boy with absent parents, he grows into a more settled and socially connected teenager who finds security in his friendships. His notable abilities are not combative but social: he is adept at making excuses, manipulating situations to his advantage, and using his charm to get what he wants, though he applies these skills in relatively harmless, everyday contexts.
