TV-Series
Description
Adam Blade is a central figure in the series, known by the title of "Destroyer Priest." He is the only successful result of a secret experiment conducted by the Japanese government and the 666 Committee, who aimed to create a perfect clone of an immensely powerful Needless known as "The Second". His designation as a test subject is marked by the black metal choker permanently affixed to his neck, which bears the engraving "079.A.B.". Physically, Blade is an imposing and muscular man, standing very tall with long, sky-blue hair and a distinctive greenish-blue crystal called the Byakugou embedded in his forehead.
Blade's personality presents a stark contrast between his outward appearance and his true nature. He resides in a church within Sector 533 and wears a priest's jacket, often carrying a bible, which gives him a serious and respectful facade. However, he has no actual knowledge of the bible, the priesthood, or any subject outside of fighting. His behavior is frequently erratic, energetic, and prone to sudden, violent outbursts, especially when he gains the upper hand in a battle. One of his most defining and pronounced traits is his self-admitted weakness for young girls; he becomes easily distracted and loses his composure in their presence, often chasing after them or acting perversely. Despite this foolish and impulsive side, Blade possesses an underlying kindness, a strong sense of justice, and a surprising well of wisdom that becomes apparent during the heat of combat. While he might claim he is not the type to help others, his actions consistently prove otherwise, as he willingly risks his life to rescue his friends.
As a clone of The Second, Blade possesses a body far beyond that of a normal human. His skeletal structure is reinforced with a special metal called Orichalcum, granting him immense physical strength, superhuman endurance, and accelerated healing abilities. His true power, however, lies in his Needless Fragment known as Zero. This ability allows him to instantly memorize any other Fragment ability that is used against him, simply by being hit by it or even witnessing it. Once memorized, he can use these copied abilities as his own and has shown a genius-level aptitude for combining them to create new, even more powerful attacks. The Byakugou crystal on his forehead is the center of this power, and he can also use it to forcibly copy a power by making contact with another Needless. His signature finishing move is known as "Death Verdict" or "Sentence: Death Penalty," which he declares while making a sign of the cross with his hand.
Within the story, Blade serves as a powerful protector and a key figure in the battle against the sinister Simeon Corporation and its leader, Adam Arclight. His role is intrinsically linked to Cruz Schild, a young resistance member whom he saves and who becomes a close companion. Blade's primary objective for much of the narrative is to rescue his friend and comrade, Eve Neuschwanstein, from the clutches of Simeon. His relationships are central to his development; his bond with Eve is particularly deep, as they have fought alongside each other for a long time. It is revealed that Blade once possessed a different Fragment, the Doppelganger, which he used to heal Eve in the past, but he lost this ability due to his metal-coated body structure. His dynamic with Cruz, who is often disguised as a girl, also leads to many of the series' comedic moments, as Blade frequently fails to recognize him and reacts with shock when the truth is revealed. Blade's own past is shrouded in mystery, and a significant part of his character development involves exploring his lost memories, which reveal a younger, different version of himself and further explore the nature of his creation.
