OVA
Description
Makoto is an elementary school student in class five-two and a classmate of Chiaki Minami. His first visit to the Minami household occurred after Chiaki invited him to play, but he instantly developed a crush on Haruka Minami at first sight. When he tried to become friendly with Haruka, Chiaki became jealous and angry, effectively banning him from the house. To circumvent this, Kana Minami forced him into cross-dressing so that he could continue visiting the Minami residence without Chiaki recognizing him. In this feminine disguise, he goes by the name Mako-chan and is presented as Kana’s junior.

Makoto is not known for sharp judgment. He is simple, impulsive, and easily swept along by other people’s schemes, which is why Chiaki nicknames him the idiotic child a label his classmates feel is a fair impression rather than just a nickname. Despite his lack of guile, his awkward sincerity makes him memorable, and much of his comedy stems from how seriously he commits to increasingly absurd situations. Over time, he appears both to struggle with and to enjoy the cross-dressing that Kana imposed on him. He has been known to claim that woman's clothing cannot contain his wildness as a man, yet he simultaneously glows in a typical feminine style, suggesting a complicated relationship with his dual identity.

His primary motivation is his infatuation with Haruka, which drives him to endure the social risk of being discovered as a boy in disguise. In the Betsubara OVA, which revolves around Valentine’s Day preparations, Mako‑chan lives in constant fear of being found out, adding tension to his already precarious situation. His role in the story is that of a recurring comic foil whose earnest but dimwitted actions consistently create misunderstandings and humorous predicaments for the sisters and their friends.

Key relationships shape his arc. He is a classmate of Chiaki, who regards him with open contempt and often resorts to physical punishment for his idiocy. He harbors a deep crush on Haruka, the eldest Minami sister, and his desire to be near her is the reason for his continued cross-dressing. Kana serves as his co-conspirator, initially forcing the disguise on him and later maintaining the ruse for her own amusement rather than out of genuine friendship. These interactions rarely lead to lasting personal growth; Makoto remains essentially the same earnest, scatterbrained boy across the series, though his willingness to maintain the Mako‑chan persona hints at a greater adaptability than his classmates give him credit for.

He possesses no extraordinary abilities. His most notable trait is his unwavering determination to see Haruka, which overrides his fear of Chiaki and public humiliation, and his surprisingly convincing appearance as Mako‑chan, which allows the disguise to persist episode after episode.
