Description
Hakuoro is the central figure of his story, a man whose journey is defined by the mystery of his origins and the weight of his destiny. He is a tall, slender man with dark blue hair, but his most striking and permanent feature is an unusual, irremovable mask that covers the upper part of his face, extending down to just below his eyes. Found gravely injured in a forest by a young woman named Eruruu, he awakens with no memory of his past or even his own name, a classic amnesiac who must build a new identity from scratch. Because he lacks the animal ears and tails common to the people of this world, he is visually distinct, further emphasizing his mysterious nature. In place of his forgotten name, he is given the name Hakuoro by Eruruu's grandmother, Tuskur, which was the name of her late son and carries the meaning White Emperor.

Despite his lost memories, Hakuoro possesses a calm, collected, and pragmatic personality that makes him a natural leader. He is deeply kind, compassionate, and protective, especially toward the family that took him in, Eruruu and her younger sister Aruruu. He is also surprisingly down-to-earth and sometimes shows a lazy streak, often trying to sneak away from his duties, much to the frustration of his serious-minded advisor Benawi. While he is patient and understanding, particularly with the hot-headed Oboro, he can also display moments of reluctant cowardice, such as when he panics after breaking a precious doll and quickly shifts the blame away from himself. This combination of wisdom, bravery in battle, and everyday human flaws makes him an accessible and compelling figure.

His core motivation is simple: to protect the new home and family he has found. After leading a successful rebellion against a tyrannical local lord, he finds himself elevated to the position of emperor of the nation of Tuskur. As a ruler, he is a Good King, using his vast knowledge of farming, metallurgy, and strategy to improve the lives of his people and defend them from invading forces. He is a reluctant but highly effective Frontline General, leading his armies from the front. However, his deepest motivation remains tied to his missing past. He is haunted by fragmented, violent images, and uncovering the truth of who he is and why he cannot remove his mask becomes an increasingly urgent personal quest.

The most important relationships in his life are formed within the village that saved him. He becomes a Parental Substitute for the young Aruruu, who openly declares him to be her father, a role he accepts with quiet affection. His connection with Eruruu is more complex and forms the emotional heart of the story. Initially viewing her as a little sister, she is a constant source of support and healing, and over time, their bond deepens into a profound romantic love. The elderly Tuskur serves as a wise maternal figure, who sees in him the spirit of the White God and trusts him to protect her granddaughters. Beyond this core family, he gathers a diverse group of loyal followers, including the fierce but honorable warrior Oboro and the stoic general Benawi, all of whom are drawn to his charisma and integrity.

As the narrative progresses, Hakuoro undergoes a dramatic transformation from a helpful villager to a legendary emperor, and finally to a figure of myth. His development is intrinsically linked to the recovery of his memories. It is slowly revealed that he is not just an amnesiac man, but the physical embodiment of Uitsualnemetia, a powerful and dangerous god. His forgotten past as a human researcher known as Iceman comes to light, a life that ended in tragedy when scientists dissected the woman he loved, leading him to unleash a terrible curse that transformed the remnants of humanity into undying creatures. This revelation forces him to confront the terrifying potential for destruction that lies within him. In the climax, he faces and merges with the dark half of the god, fully realizing his divine nature. To protect the world from his own uncontrollable power, he makes the ultimate sacrifice, choosing to have himself sealed away.

In terms of abilities, Hakuoro is a true Renaissance man. His forgotten past as an advanced human has left him with an extraordinary breadth of practical knowledge, from advanced agriculture and irrigation to simple chemistry and metallurgy. This intellect makes him a brilliant strategist and tactician, able to win against overwhelming odds. In personal combat, he is a highly skilled fighter who wields a large, iron battle fan with deadly precision. He is not the strongest in his group, but he is versatile and a required presence for his forces to succeed. However, his most notable abilities are divine in nature. When his emotions are pushed to their absolute limit, usually by the death or suffering of a loved one, he can tap into his power as Uitsualnemetia, transforming into a terrifying, god-like form capable of supernatural feats such as flash-stepping and unleashing devastating elemental attacks. This power is both his greatest strength and his deepest curse, a constant reminder of the monster he could become.
