Description
Jeager, known in the Japanese version as Yeager and in English as Lazar, is a supporting character in the anime Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's. A short, effeminate man with spiky purple hair and distinctive makeup featuring red lipstick and two vertical red lines over his eyes, his appearance often draws comparisons to a clown. He dresses in an opulent red coat with gold trim, a costume that reflects his theatrical background.

Born into a circus-performing family, Jeager grew up in poverty despite his family's hard work. As the eldest sibling, he left home to find a stable job to support his relatives, who all shared his unique appearance. He eventually secured a position in Sector Security, where his competence led to a promotion by Rex Goodwin to Head of Special Investigations. With this financial stability, he was finally able to provide for his family, including his wife and son, for whom he harbors genuine affection.

Jeager is a complex figure whose personality shifts dramatically depending on his circumstances. In positions of authority, he displays arrogance, egotism, and a mild sadistic streak, often laughing at the misfortunes of others. However, when truly threatened and without the upper hand, his demeanor quickly collapses, revealing a cowardly nature. He is known for a distinctive laugh, a particular speech pattern, and an extreme fondness for cup ramen, which serves as a recurring comedic trait. He also shares a tense, bickering relationship with his colleague Mina Simington and shows fear towards Jack Atlas when the King is angered.

Initially serving as a top-ranking henchman to Rex Goodwin, Jeager plays a key role in the events leading to the Fortune Cup. He is sent to recruit Yusei Fudo, threatening his friends to ensure compliance, and manipulates the tournament from behind the scenes to help Goodwin identify the Signers. Following Goodwin's death, Jeager is manipulated into serving the Three Emperors of Yliaster, who promise him the directorship of Sector Security. He is forced to steal Yusei and Bruno's engine program, an act that leads to Yliaster betraying him and attempting to kill him. This betrayal becomes a turning point, prompting Jeager to choose survival and the protection of his family over his ambition.

Jeager's motivations are rooted in the desire to secure a prosperous life for his family, a goal born from his impoverished childhood. This drive leads him to make morally questionable choices, but it also ultimately redeems him. After a duel with Crow Hogan, where both attempt to lose out of mutual respect, Jeager gains the courage to oppose Yliaster openly. He entrusts his family to Martha's care, shares critical information about the organization with Team 5D's, and controversially reappoints himself as Director of Sector Security to defy Yliaster's plans, despite the personal danger. By the end of the series, he has transformed from a conniving bureaucrat into a valuable ally, and following Yliaster's defeat, he is elected as the first mayor of New Domino City.

In combat, Jeager uses a Jester-themed deck that reflects his appearance and former role as a jester to figures like Goodwin and Jack Atlas. His strategy focuses on a lockdown playstyle, using cards like Jester Lord, which gains power for being the only monster on the field, supported by continuous trap cards such as Imperial Custom. He also incorporates anti-Synchro techniques through cards like Discord and Tuning Barrier, making his deck a tactical nuisance for opponents reliant on Synchro Summoning. An alternate version of Jeager appears in the manga, where he serves as Rex Goodwin's loyal assistant and uses a variation of his Jester Puppet deck, as well as a cameo in the Yu-Gi-Oh! ARC-V anime as a wealthy citizen whose likeness appears on currency.
