Description
Misty Tredwell, known as Misty Lola in the original Japanese version, is a character from the anime Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's. She is introduced as a world-famous fashion model who resides in Neo Domino City. Misty possesses a unique skill known as physiognomy, the ability to read and understand a person's fate or character simply by studying their facial expressions. This ability is demonstrated early on when she meets Carly Carmine and predicts that Carly will soon die.

Misty's background is marked by deep personal tragedy. She had a younger brother named Tobi, whom she loved dearly. Tobi was a fan of the psychic duelist Aki Izayoi and had become involved with the Arcadia Movement, an organization led by Divine that sought to gather individuals with psychic powers. During a catastrophic event in the Daimon Area, Tobi lost his life. Misty, consumed by grief and believing Aki to be responsible for her brother's death, became dazed while driving and plunged off a highway. As she clung to life, the Earthbound Immortal Ccarayhua took the opportunity to form a pact with her, resurrecting her as a Dark Signer with the Lizard birthmark. Her motivation throughout much of her early story arc is vengeance against Aki.

As a Dark Signer, Misty's role in the story is that of a primary antagonist. She infiltrates the Arcadia Movement's headquarters and confronts Aki, initiating a Shadow Duel in which she summons her Earthbound God, Ccarayhua. Though the duel is interrupted, Misty later faces Aki again in a confrontation at a theme park. During this duel, she reveals the depth of her grief through a locket containing a photograph of herself and Tobi. Through communication from Yusei Fudo, Misty learns the truth: it was Divine, not Aki, who caused Tobi's death. Overcome with fury, she allows Ccarayhua to consume her rage, and the Earthbound God devours Divine. After this revelation, Misty feels liberated from her darkness and attempts to surrender. However, Ccarayhua refuses to relinquish control and forces her to continue the duel. The real Misty pleads with Aki to end her suffering, and Aki activates a trap card that defeats Misty. As Misty vanishes, her locket breaks open.

Key relationships define her arc. She forms a close bond with Carly Carmine, who becomes a friend and confidant during her time as a Dark Signer. Her relationship with Aki is initially one of bitter hatred, but it evolves into a more complex understanding as Misty discovers the truth. Divine is her ultimate target once she learns of his manipulation. Her brother Tobi remains a central emotional anchor throughout.

Following the final defeat of the Dark Signers and Rex Goodwin, Misty is revived with no memory of her time as a Dark Signer. She returns to her modeling career, and by the epilogue, a photograph of her in Paris is glimpsed, indicating she has moved on from the trauma of her past.

In terms of notable abilities, besides her talent for physiognomy, Misty is a skilled Duel Monsters player. Her deck is themed around water-attribute monsters, with the Reptilianne archetype being associated with her in the anime. She uses Dark Tuner monsters to summon Dark Synchro monsters with negative levels, and her signature card is the Earthbound Immortal Ccarayhua. Her dueling style often incorporates cards that manipulate opponent's monster levels and reduce their attack power, reflecting her calculated and vengeful personality. Despite her initial role as an antagonist, Misty is portrayed as a tragic figure whose quest for revenge is ultimately redirected toward the true source of her pain, and she is granted a second chance at life.
