Description
Dragan is a character from the anime Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's, known as a member of Team Ragnarok during the World Riding Grand Prix, or WRGP. He is distinguished as the user of the powerful Synchro Monster Thor, Lord of the Aesir, and possesses the Thurisaz Rune Eye. His name is of Balkan and Eastern European origin, derived from the Slavic element dorgu, meaning precious.

Before the events of the main story, Dragan was exploring a cave with his father when they discovered Thor, Lord of the Aesir. When Dragan took the card, the cave began to collapse, leaving his father seriously injured. After his father was hospitalized, Dragan was approached by Lazar, who offered him a deal. He would receive the money needed for his father's medical treatment if he agreed to duel Jack Atlas, the Duel King, and deliberately lose, making the defeat seem effortless to uphold Jack's reputation. Driven by desperation for his father's well-being, Dragan took the deal and purposefully lost the match.

This event deeply scarred Dragan. The shame of betraying his own pride as a duelist and being forced to throw a match he could have won left him emotionally shattered. Sometime later, while climbing a mountain, he was caught in an avalanche. He survived only because his Rune Eye saved him, an event that could be interpreted as him seeking a form of penance or even death. Following this near-death experience, Harald found him and encouraged him to embrace his destiny with Thor and join his cause. Dragan accepted, and together with Brave, they formed Team Ragnarok.

Dragan's role in the story is primarily as a rival to Jack Atlas and a member of a key opposing team. His primary motivation is to settle the score with Jack and restore his own honor. He harbors a burning desire for a true and fair rematch to prove his real strength, free from the corruption of their first encounter. He carries the weight of his past dishonor, and his journey is one of seeking redemption through an honest duel.

In terms of personality, Dragan is portrayed as a serious and proud warrior. His past has made him stoic and determined, but not cruel. He values honor and strength, which is why the rigged duel was so devastating to him. He is fiercely loyal to his teammates on Team Ragnarok, who gave him a new purpose. His key relationship is with Jack Atlas, a complex dynamic built on a foundation of a past deceit that has transformed into a fierce, mutual respect between two powerful duelists. He also holds deep affection for his unnamed father, the original motivation for his fall from grace.

During the WRGP, Team Ragnarok hosts an exhibition duel where Dragan chooses to face Jack again, but the match is called off when their ace monsters' clash threatens to destroy the building. In the semifinals of the tournament, Dragan finally gets his long-awaited rematch. In a strange twist of fate, both draw the same cards as in their first duel. However, this time Dragan plays with full force and strategy, summoning Thor and pushing Jack to his limits. Despite Dragan's best efforts, Jack ultimately summons Red Nova Dragon, which proves too powerful for Thor, and Dragan is defeated. After this loss, he gives his Thor card to his father, an act that symbolizes shedding his past shame and finding a different kind of peace.

As a duelist, Dragan’s abilities are formidable. He employs a Nordic Beast deck, which uses beasts from Norse mythology to quickly gather the materials needed for a Synchro Summon. His ace monster, Thor, Lord of the Aesir, is a Level 10 Synchro Monster with 3500 attack points. Thor possesses the ability to negate the effects of an opponent's face-up monsters and can revive itself from the graveyard at the end of the turn it was destroyed. Dragan supports this strategy with various Nordic Relic spell and trap cards, such as Nordic Relic Brisingamen, which can alter a monster's attack points during battle. His entire strategy is built around summoning his god and overwhelming the opponent with its immense power and resilience.
