TV-Series
Description
Meiko Rokudō is a young woman who appears as an innocent and childish millionaire, possessing a sweet but fragile demeanor that belies her status as one of the most powerful exorcists in Japan. She is the direct controller of twelve shikigami, spiritual beings that serve as her companions and protectors. Unlike most exorcists who view such creatures as tools, Meiko genuinely considers these twelve shikigami her friends, a bond that inspires fierce loyalty from them in return. The shikigami are animal in form and are named after the Japanese names of the Heavenly Generals, legendary figures from Hindu and Buddhist traditions. Controlling this many shikigami requires an extraordinary spiritual capacity, as even a well-trained exorcist might struggle to manage six; Meiko, without any formal training or visible effort, effortlessly commands all twelve simultaneously.
In terms of personality, Meiko is characterized by her shy, childish, and sensitive nature. She is a loner by circumstance, finding comfort in the company of her shikigami rather than other people. This isolation stems from her emotional vulnerability, as she is weak-willed and easily hurt. When she becomes distraught or upset, her emotional instability causes her shikigami to spiral out of control, unleashing destructive power on anything and anyone within reach. Conversely, whenever a shikigami is harmed or lost, Meiko displays very sincere and profound concern for their well-being, highlighting the depth of her connection to them. On the rare occasions when she overcomes her shyness, she has demonstrated the ability to become serious, reckless, and a bossy leader, briefly mirroring the commanding presence of her best friend.
Meiko considers Reiko Mikami to be her best and most important friend. This bond was forged during the trials for the Exorcist License, when Meiko lost control of her shikigami in a public setting. Reiko Mikami was the only person present who could successfully approach and calm her down, an act that left a lasting impression on the emotionally fragile Meiko. She is hinted to have deep, possibly romantic feelings for Reiko, viewing her with an admiration that goes beyond typical friendship. This unidirectional devotion is a key aspect of her character, even as Reiko herself finds the intensity of the friendship somewhat troublesome. Meiko is the daughter of a famous mad scientist and a rich heiress, and her mother was the former master of the shikigami, still able to control them at will. She is slightly older than Reiko Mikami, as her mother was already pregnant when Reiko’s mother was introduced to their shared mentor.
Within the story, Meiko serves as a powerful, unpredictable ally and a rival of immense potential. During the exorcist license trials, she qualified as the second-best exorcist in all of Japan, ranking just behind Reiko Mikami and ahead of the talented Emi Ogasawara. This ranking was achieved despite her shikigami breaking loose from her control during the matches, a testament to her raw power. While her immense wealth and shy demeanor make her seem detached, her role as the only person who can match Reiko’s spiritual power places her in a unique position of respect among other ghost sweepers. Her greatest development lies in learning to manage her emotions, as the safety of those around her often depends on her ability to remain calm and prevent her shikigami from running amok.
Her notable abilities are centered entirely on the control of her twelve shikigami. Each of these spirits possesses its own form and powers, and they act as her primary means of offense and defense. When she is emotionally balanced, they are obedient guardians. However, her lack of training and her fragile emotional state mean that any distress signals a loss of control, turning her protective allies into uncontrollable engines of destruction. This unique dynamic makes her simultaneously one of the most powerful and most dangerous exorcists, as her greatest weakness is directly tied to her overwhelming spiritual strength.
