Description
Ayumi Nonomura is a first-year student at the sprawling Kamizono Academy, and her journey begins on a note of high anxiety. On her first day of high school, her extreme shyness combines with the school's famously confusing layout, leaving her hopelessly lost and struggling with the fear that she will be unable to make any friends. This initial encounter with the vast campus leads her to cross paths with the other three main heroines, an event that forms the core of the series.

Personality is the most defining aspect of Ayumi’s character. She is the archetypal shy and reserved girl, whose timid nature has historically made it difficult for her to form friendships. This timidity is not born of coldness, but rather from a deep-seated nervousness and a gentle, polite disposition. Despite her quiet exterior, Ayumi possesses a rich inner world; her internal monologue is quite active, which prevents her from being a purely passive or tearful character and instead highlights her relatable anxieties and observations. She is also notably naive, which, combined with her kind heart, often makes her the target of practical jokes from her more boisterous friends, though these pranks are rarely mean-spirited.

While Ayumi struggles to be noticed by her peers for her personality, she inadvertently attracts a different kind of attention. She is extremely popular among the male student body, a fact that has more to do with her physical measurements of 90-56-85 than her shy demeanor. This popularity is so pronounced that candid photographs of her are considered highly valuable commodities that sell quickly among the boys. This creates an ironic contrast between her desire for quiet, genuine connection and her unwanted status as a school-wide beauty icon.

In the group dynamic, Ayumi serves as the initial emotional anchor. The story begins with her perspective, framing her struggle to fit in before she is swept up by the whirlwind that is her new group of friends. Her primary motivation throughout the series is to overcome her social anxiety and build meaningful friendships, a goal she slowly achieves through her daily interactions. Her key relationships are defined by the very different personalities that adopt her. She forms an early bond with the serious and proper Tatsuki Iizuka, who is also lost on the school grounds, and their friendship provides Ayumi with a sense of stability. In stark contrast, she is befriended by the wild and unpredictable Torako Kageyama, whose energetic troublemaking constantly pulls Ayumi out of her comfort zone and into comedic situations. Through these relationships, especially with the forceful Torako, Ayumi experiences significant but subtle development; she gradually becomes more extroverted and outspoken while still retaining her inherent shy nature.

Ayumi's role often highlights her hidden strengths. Her genuine charm and emotional expressiveness are so potent that her friend Torako occasionally uses her as a human shield or a distraction to deflect anger or get out of trouble. Furthermore, she seems to have a peculiar effect on Torako's older brother, Kitsune, a character known for his sadistic personality. In her encounters with him, he will sometimes act in an unusually kind or perverted manner, marking her as one of the few people who can elicit such a response from him. While she possesses no special physical or intellectual abilities, Ayumi's notable power is her inadvertent charisma and the emotional sincerity she brings to her friendships, which helps to ground the group's chaotic adventures.
