TV-Series
Description
Byron Love, known in the original Japanese version as Afuro Terumi, is a character who appears across multiple story arcs of the Inazuma Eleven series. He is a talented soccer player first introduced as the captain of Zeus Junior High, a team known for its overwhelming power and ruthless playing style. Physically, Byron is recognized for his long, flowing blonde hair, pale skin, and reddish-brown eyes, giving him an elegant and almost angelic appearance that often leads to him being mistaken for a girl. His name and overall motif are strong references to Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love and beauty, which aligns with his graceful and artistic approach to the game.

At the beginning of his story, Byron's personality is defined by arrogance and an overwhelming confidence in his own abilities. As the captain of Zeus, he believes his team to be invincible, largely due to their reliance on the God's Aqua, a performance-enhancing substance provided by the sinister coach Ray Dark. This "divine water" boosts the players' physical capabilities to superhuman levels, and during this period, Byron views himself and his team as gods on the field, looking down upon opponents with disdain. His playing style during this time is aggressive and cold, focused purely on absolute victory and the demonstration of power.

The character's first major transformation occurs after Zeus suffers a narrow defeat to the Raimon Junior High team in the Football Frontier finals. This loss serves as a wake-up call, showing him that true strength does not come from artificial enhancements but from effort, teamwork, and a genuine love for the sport. This lesson profoundly changes his personality. When he later joins Raimon temporarily to help them fight against the alien Aliea Academy, he reveals a very different side of himself. He becomes a supportive and selfless teammate, even sacrificing his own body and sustaining a serious leg injury to help his new friends win a crucial match. He also shows a deep sense of empathy, helping his teammate Shawn Froste overcome a deep personal trauma by relating to his pain.

Byron is a highly strategic player with an exceptional level of natural talent, though he is not portrayed as a tactical mastermind on the same level as some other characters. His role on a team is typically either a midfielder or a forward, and he often wears the number 10 shirt, signifying his status as a key playmaker. His soccer is described as being of an artistic and elegant quality, capable of even charming his opponents with its beauty. This artistic nature is directly expressed through his signature hissatsu techniques, which are powerful and visually spectacular special moves. His most iconic technique is "God Knows" (also known as Divine Wisdom or Sabiduría Divina), a shooting move where he grows large angelic wings, flies into the air, and kicks the ball with immense, glowing force. He later develops an even more powerful version of this shot called "God Break" (Solar Strike or Tir Solaire), which features larger golden wings and is strong enough to break through world-class defenses. Another notable ability is "Heaven's Time" (Instant Céleste), a dribbling technique that allows him to snap his fingers and seemingly stop or slow time for everyone but himself, enabling him to easily walk past frozen defenders.

Throughout the series, Byron's role evolves significantly. After his redemption, he plays for the temporary Raimon team against the Aliea Academy. Later, as he is of Korean descent, he is recruited to play for the Korean national team, Fire Dragon, in the Football Frontier International tournament. Here, he acts as a rival to the main Inazuma Japan team, leading a squad that includes other former powerful opponents. In the alternate timeline of Inazuma Eleven GO, he appears as an older coach for Kirkwood Junior High, using his experience to guide a new generation of players and teach them the importance of playing authentic, heartfelt soccer rather than following the corrupt orders of the Fifth Sector. Byron Love's journey is one of falling from grace and finding redemption, transforming from an arrogant antagonist into a humble, reliable, and powerful ally and mentor whose elegant style leaves a lasting mark on the series.
