Description
Paolo Bianchi, known under the original Japanese name Fidio Aldena, is a supporting character in the third season of the anime Inazuma Eleven, which follows the Football Frontier International world tournament. He is a forward for Orpheus, the national team of Italy, and wears the number 10 jersey. Because of his speed and technical ability, he is widely known by the nickname the white meteor of Italy. In appearance, he is a teenage boy of average height and build with short brown hair and blue eyes.
His role in the story centers on the Football Frontier International tournament, where he serves as the ace striker of Orpheus. Although the team has an official captain, Nakata, who appears for only one match during the competition, Paolo acts as the acting or substitute captain and leads the squad for most of the tournament. Early in the competition, the veteran coach Kageyama Reiji takes charge of Orpheus and attempts to replace Paolo and his teammates with a hand-picked selection known as Team K. Rather than accept being dismissed, Paolo rises to the challenge, and a representative match is arranged to decide which group will represent Italy. In the course of this struggle, Paolo and his teammates learn to trust their new coach and develop a coordinated team tactic called Catenaccio Counter. Through using that tactic and proving themselves, they help Kageyama rediscover his love for soccer.
In terms of personality, Paolo is a composed and dedicated player who leads by example. He places strong value on trust and teamwork, which is shown when he chooses to believe in Kageyama even after the coach has cast him and his friends aside. He is also open to forming bonds with opponents: when Inazuma Japan arrives at Liocott Island for the tournament, Paolo meets the Japanese captain Endou Mamoru for the first time, and the two become close friends. Their friendship develops alongside their rivalry, as Orpheus ultimately faces Inazuma Japan in an official match during the tournament.
Paolo's development over the story sees him grow from a star player facing the possible end of his national career into a mature leader who can unite his teammates and even influence an experienced coach. His connection with Endou broadens his perspective as well, and in the film Inazuma Eleven the Movie: The Invasion of the Strongest Army Ogre, he temporarily joins forces with Raimon, playing alongside players from various other teams to confront a common enemy. This involvement shows his willingness to set aside competition for a greater cause.
His notable abilities lie in his speed, dribbling, and shooting. His signature techniques include the shooting moves Odin Sword and Divine Arrow, as well as a one-two dribbling move called Hitori One-Two, also known as Double Touch, which he can execute on his own. Beyond individual skill, he demonstrates strong leadership and helps his team master the coordinated Catenaccio Counter tactic, making him one of the defining players of the world tournament arc.
