TV-Series
Description
Bryce Withingale, also widely known by his Aliea Academy alias Gazelle, is a skilled forward and a prominent antagonist in the Inazuma Eleven series. His real name is Suzuno Fuusuke, and he is a Japanese player who later represents the Korean national team, Fire Dragon.
In terms of appearance, Gazelle has a slender build and distinctive icy blue or light gray hair that is swept upwards and to the left. He has teal-colored eyes and is known for the habit of rolling up his sleeves while playing, a stylistic choice he maintains throughout the series.
Gazelle's personality is defined by a calm, cool, and often arrogant demeanor. He is a genius player who is deeply confident in his own exceptional abilities on the field. This self-assurance can manifest as a cold and calculating attitude towards opponents, whom he often threatens with chilling remarks about freezing darkness or absolute zero. He has a notable habit of combing his hair with his fingers when irritated or frustrated. Despite his icy exterior, particularly in his early appearances, he undergoes subtle development. After joining Fire Dragon, he becomes less arrogant and noticeably more friendly and respectful, even greeting his opponents in a changed, less hostile tone. However, his pride remains a core trait, and he struggles to accept defeat.
The character is introduced during the second season as the captain of Diamond Dust, a master-class team within the Aliea Academy. He appears after the disbandment of the Epsilon team and immediately challenges Raimon, threatening to destroy Tokyo to force the match. Initially underestimating his opponents, he is shocked when the match ends in a draw. After being passed over for the position of Genesis, the top Aliea team, in favor of the team Gaia, he joins forces with his rival, Nagumo Haruya also known as Burn or Torch, to form the ultimate combined team, Chaos. As co-captain of Chaos, he works with Burn to prove their strength.
In the third season, Gazelle is scouted by Aphrodi to play for the Korean national team, Fire Dragon, in the Football Frontier International. His role shifts from a primary antagonist to a formidable rival, facing the main characters in a critical Asian qualifying match.
A key relationship is his intense rivalry with Burn, who commands fire-based techniques. The two constantly argue and detest each other, believing their own element is superior. This conflict is a defining trait, as Gazelle famously retorts that flames only die in the presence of cold ice. However, their mutual desire for victory leads them to set aside their differences and combine their elemental powers to devastating effect, acting as the two pillars of the Chaos team. He also shares a significant bond with Aphrodi, who recruits him for Fire Dragon, and within that team, they develop powerful combination plays.
Gazelle's development is marked by his journey from a cocky, isolated genius who looks down on others to a more cooperative team player. The formation of Chaos forces him to find common ground with his greatest rival, an alliance that continues into his time with Fire Dragon. While he remains a talented and formidable player, his experiences broaden his perspective, and he learns to respect the strength of his opponents, showing genuine sportsmanship after his team's eventual loss.
As a forward, Gazelle possesses a range of notable abilities, many of which utilize his signature ice motif. His most famous individual hissatsu technique is Northern Impact, a powerful shot that freezes the ground around him and launches the ball with immense force. In the games, his strategy often involves using the Water Veil hissatsu to bypass defenders. He is also a master of combination moves. With his rival Burn, he uses the powerful joint shot Fire Blizzard. Later, together with Aphrodi and Burn, he can unleash the formidable triple hissatsu technique known as Chaos Break. In the game versions, he is considered a highly complete player with excellent stats in shooting, speed, and defense, making him a valuable forward.
