TV-Series
Description
Claude Beacons, also known by his alien identity Torch, is a prominent character recognized for his role as a formidable striker and captain. He is a boy of about fourteen years of age with a distinctly fiery appearance. His most notable features are his crimson red hair, styled into four spikes on top of his head that are meant to resemble flickering flames, and his sharp, dark golden-yellow eyes. During his time with the Alius Academy, he sports unique line markings beneath both of his eyes, a physical effect caused by the Alius Stone similar to other players from that organization. When not in his team uniform, his casual outfit typically consists of a black and white short-sleeved jacket paired with green pants.

Claude is introduced as a character with an aggressive and volatile personality, fitting his fiery motif. He is impulsive, arrogant, and rebellious, often acting before he thinks and using a notably impolite manner of speaking. He holds a deep-seated jealousy and resentment towards Xavier Foster, also known as Hiroto Kiyama, who leads the superior Genesis team within the Alius Academy. His primary motivation is to prove that he is the strongest, and he deeply hates taking orders, especially from Xavier. His temperament is entirely opposite to that of his frequent partner, Gazelle, whose cool and composed nature serves as a direct contrast to Claude’s explosive and volcanic energy.

In the story, Claude first appears in Okinawa under a false identity. He pretends to be the legendary Fire Striker that the Raimon team is searching for, demonstrating his powerful shot to impress them. When asked about his previous school, Xavier exposes him, revealing that Claude is in fact an agent of the Alius Academy. Exposed and furious, Claude sheds his disguise and reveals himself as Torch, the captain of Prominence, one of the Alius Academy's supreme-rank teams, before disappearing.

His rivalry with Xavier drives him to form an alliance with Gazelle, the captain of the Diamond Dust team. Together, they create a new, illegal combined team named Chaos, intending to prove their superiority and give Xavier a lesson. As co-captains of Chaos, they challenge Raimon. Initially, the Prominence and Diamond Dust players refuse to cooperate with each other, mirroring their captains' disdain for collaboration. However, seeing Torch and Gazelle set aside their differences to combine their strengths into a new co-op technique later called Fire Blizzard, the rest of the team begins to work together. Despite their powerful performance and victory over Raimon, they are ultimately confronted and reprimanded by Xavier as the captain of Genesis for their unsanctioned union.

Claude reappears later during the Football Frontier International tournament as a player for the Korean national team, Fire Dragon. Having been recruited by his teammate Byron Love, he shows significant growth as a player. He demonstrates that he has become less arrogant compared to his initial appearance, and while he still competes fiercely, his petty bickering with Gazelle has subsided. During the match against Inazuma Japan, he showcases his individual strength by scoring a goal and teams up with Gazelle and Byron to perform the powerful combination shot Chaos Meteor. Ultimately, his team loses, and he accepts the defeat gracefully, acknowledging the victory of the Japanese team.

Claude's key relationships are defined by rivalry and reluctant partnership. His intense jealousy and hatred for Xavier Foster fuel his every action, pushing him to seek greater power through any means necessary. Conversely, his relationship with Gazelle is that of a foil and a partner; they are opposites in personality but are frequently forced together by their shared goals, eventually learning to combine their elements of fire and ice to create devastatingly effective techniques. His team members in Prominence and Chaos show him great deference, often addressing him as Lord Torch, recognizing him as their superior.

Throughout his development, Claude transitions from a deceptive antagonist and a rebellious captain consumed by jealousy to a more focused and slightly humbled competitor. His time in Chaos taught him the value of cooperation, and his later appearance with Fire Dragon shows a player who has honed his abilities to compete on an international stage. His speaking mannerism includes a notable catchphrase threatening opponents with the flames of the Red Lotus.

As a player, Claude possesses several notable abilities. His signature individual shooting technique is Atomic Flare, a powerful fire-element shot that he uses to devastating effect. He also masters Fire Blizzard, a powerful combination technique performed with Gazelle where they combine their fire and ice energies. Later, with Gazelle and Byron Love, he performs Chaos Meteor, a formidable triple combination shot. Other techniques at his disposal include skills for offensive and defensive maneuvers, such as those that enhance his elemental power or create defensive barriers. He is known for his exceptional aerial game, often spending more time in the air than on the ground to bypass defenders.
