TV-Series
Description
Haruya Nagumo, also known by his alien identity Burn, is a prominent character in the Inazuma Eleven series. He is a boy of about fourteen years old with a distinct and memorable appearance. His most notable feature is his crimson red hair, styled on top into four spikes that resemble flickering flames, with two longer pieces falling as bangs over his dark golden eyes. He also has a single long lower eyelash on each eye. In the original anime and games, his pupils are typically depicted as standard round shapes, but in some later iterations, such as the Ares no Tenbin timeline, they are shown as lightning bolts. When he is operating as the alien player Burn for the Aliea Academy, he has distinctive line markings drawn below both of his eyes. His casual clothing consists of a black and white short-sleeved jacket worn over a dark red shirt, paired with green pants and black and white sneakers.

Nagumo's personality is as fiery as his appearance suggests. He is best described as brash, rebellious, and extremely arrogant, with a powerful desire to prove himself as the strongest player. He possesses a volcanic temperament, reacting impulsively and aggressively to challenges, and he has a particular disdain for taking orders from others, especially from his rival Hiroto Kiyama, known as Gran. His hot-headed and confrontational nature is a complete contrast to that of his friend and rival, Fūsuke Suzuno, known as Gazel, who is much calmer and more collected. Despite his aggressive exterior, there are hints of a more caring side, particularly in his relationship with his childhood friend Heat, for whom he often acted as a protector.

Initially, Nagumo's primary motivation is a jealous and burning ambition to be the best. He resents being ranked below Gran and his team, The Genesis, within the Aliea Academy hierarchy. This jealousy drives him to extreme lengths. His personal desire for power and recognition, combined with a fierce competitive streak, leads him to form a joint team called Chaos with his rival Suzuno, hoping to prove that their combined strength surpasses that of The Genesis. He is not afraid to be deceitful to achieve his goals, as shown when he poses as the legendary Flame Striker to infiltrate and challenge Raimon, all for the purpose of scouting their strength.

His role in the story begins during the second season's Aliea Academy arc. He debuts in Okinawa while Raimon is searching for a player known as the Flame Striker. Claiming to be that player, he challenges the team and demonstrates his immense power by easily dribbling past their defenses and scoring with his signature technique, Atomic Flare, breaking through the goalkeeper's formidable move, Majin the Hand. After his true identity as the captain of the Aliea Academy's Prominence team is revealed by Hiroto, he antagonizes Raimon. Later, after Hiroto's team is promoted to become The Genesis, Nagumo and Suzuno set aside their rivalry to form the joint team Chaos, which overwhelms Raimon in a match. Their ultimate goal is to show their leaders that they are stronger than The Genesis, but the match is interrupted by Hiroto.

Following the resolution of the Aliea Academy incident, Nagumo's role evolves. Along with Suzuno, he is scouted by the prodigy player Aphrodi to join the South Korean national team, Fire Dragon, for the Football Frontier International tournament. This marks a shift from antagonist to a rival competitor. In this role, he fights alongside his former enemies, demonstrating significant growth. He displays excellent teamwork with Suzuno and Aphrodi, helping to lead Fire Dragon against Inazuma Japan.

Key relationships heavily influence Nagumo's character. His most significant dynamic is with Fūsuke Suzuno. Starting as fierce rivals from opposing teams, their mutual desire to surpass Hiroto leads them to form the powerful partnership of Chaos. Their rivalry eventually transforms into a strong and effective friendship, continuing into their time on Fire Dragon. His relationship with Hiroto Kiyama is defined by jealousy and a desire to surpass him. This competitive hate forms the core of his motivation during the Aliea arc. He also shares a close bond with his teammate Heat, as they are childhood friends from the same orphanage, with Nagumo often having looked after the sickly Heat.

Throughout the series, Nagumo shows clear development. He starts as a purely arrogant and rebellious antagonist, but his rivalry with Suzuno matures into a cooperative friendship, and he learns to work as part of a team like Fire Dragon under a captain he respects. There is also a background story that he and other Aliea players were originally orphans from Ohisama En, taken in by Kira Seijirou, and that their actions were part of a larger, manipulated plan. In the alternate timeline of Inazuma Eleven Ares no Tenbin, his role is significantly different; he attends Eisei Gakuen and his performance is notably reduced, including being taken off the field due to a concussion.

As a player, Nagumo is an exceptionally powerful forward. His abilities are centered on his overwhelming offensive power, perfectly matching his fiery personality. His signature individual hissatsu technique is Atomic Flare, a devastating shot that he used to first break through Raimon's defense. He also has other individual moves like Nitro Flare and Star Eruption. His most notable combination techniques are Fire Blizzard, a powerful shot used in tandem with his rival-turned-partner Suzuno, and Chaos Break, an even more formidable three-person shot performed with Aphrodi and Suzuno. These abilities solidify his role as a striker capable of single-handedly changing the course of a match.
