Description
Koujirou Genda is the standout goalkeeper for Teikoku Gakuen, a role that earned him the title King of Goalkeepers. Proud and confident in his skill between the posts, he is equally defined by a deep, protective loyalty to his closest teammates, particularly captain Yuuto Kidou and fellow player Jirou Sakuma. That devotion is evident early on, when he alone openly worries about Kidou’s wellbeing and later supports the captain’s decision to defy their abusive coach, Reiji Kageyama.

Beneath his composed, disciplined exterior lies a fierce moral compass. While he respects hierarchy and will ordinarily follow orders, he openly despises Kageyama’s methods and does not remain silent in the face of cruelty. This tension between obedience and personal conviction shapes much of his journey. His teammates lean on him as an emotional anchor; his steadiness and reliability often hold the group together when cracks begin to show.

After Teikoku’s loss to Zeus, Genda is targeted by Akio Fudou, who preys on his insecurity about being left behind by Kidou. Seeking the strength to stand on their own, he and Sakuma are drawn into Shin Teikoku Gakuen, again under Kageyama, and are given an Aliea Stone that amplifies negative emotions. Even while under that corrupting influence, Genda’s first instinct is to worry about Sakuma, proving that his caring nature runs deeper than any artificially imposed darkness. When the Shin Teikoku episode ends, he emerges chastened but intact.

He later joins Neo Japan, a team assembled by Hitomiko Kira with the aim of supplanting Inazuma Japan for the Football Frontier International. Though the attempt fails, his participation further demonstrates his determination to prove himself and protect his soccer future. In the alternate timeline of Ares no Tenbin, his role as the emotional core of Teikoku is underscored when Kageyama benches him to destabilize the squad; his return galvanizes the team, and he personally reclaims the captain’s armband from an unworthy player and returns it to Sakuma, an act that reveals his strict personal code and his unwillingness to tolerate disrespect.

Genda’s goalkeeping arsenal features several powerful hissatsu techniques. In his first appearances he blocks attacks with Power Shield and Full Power Shield. During the Aliea conflict he unleashes Beast Fang, a more aggressive save. By the time of Neo Japan he has developed Drill Smasher V2 and participates in Shin Mugen no Kabe, the evolved infinite wall. In the Ares timeline he uses High Beast Fang. Throughout every version of the story, he remains a proud, capable, and deeply supportive figure whose greatest strength is not merely his skill in goal, but his unwavering heart.
