Description
Kazuki Aihara is one of the two male protagonists in the story. He is a second-year high school student at Kibina Academy and a close childhood friend of both Mao Mizusawa and Koichi Sanada. He lives with his younger sister, Nana Aihara.
Kazuki is characterized by a straightforward, sincere, and determined personality. He is generally cheerful and friendly, but he can also be somewhat oblivious to the romantic feelings of others around him. His mood is often transparent, directly reflecting the state of his current relationships, which makes him an open and honest individual. While he has a tendency to act first and think later, his strength lies in his willfulness and refusal to give up once he has made up his mind about something.
His primary motivation throughout the story becomes his relationship with Eriko Futami, a quiet genius girl in his class. Their relationship begins in an unusual way when Kazuki finds her discarded test paper, which she had folded into a paper airplane. Tracking her down to return it, he becomes the subject of her "experiments" to understand romantic love, a concept she finds alien. Through these experiments, which involve acts of affection, Kazuki finds himself genuinely falling in love with her. His main drive is to move beyond the confines of an experiment and build a real, emotional connection with Eriko.
Beyond his romantic pursuits, Kazuki is a member of the school's soccer club. However, his commitment to the sport is not always consistent. He receives significant encouragement and training from his classmate and fellow club member, Asuka Sakino. Her coaching and belief in his abilities push him to improve and become a better player. Kazuki is also a reluctant member of the school's cinema club, a decision made by his friend Akira Hiiragi that he often regrets due to the embarrassing roles he is forced to play.
The key relationships in his life shape his development significantly. His relationship with Eriko Futami is the central focus, moving from a clinical experiment to a deep, romantic connection. Eriko is initially emotionless regarding love, and Kazuki’s persistence is what eventually helps her understand her own heart. His friendship with Asuka Sakino is another important dynamic. Asuka develops romantic feelings for Kazuki and even confesses to him, but his heart remains fixed on Eriko, showcasing his loyalty and single-mindedness. He shares a supportive friendship with Koichi Sanada and Mao Mizusawa, who often act as confidants and observers of his emotional turmoil. At home, he is the older brother to Nana, who is curious and persistent when it comes to prying into his love life.
Over the course of the story, Kazuki undergoes notable development. He starts as a somewhat passive individual whose involvement in his own life is dictated by circumstance, such as joining the cinema club or being a benchwarmer on the soccer team. As his feelings for Eriko deepen, he becomes more proactive. Despite her repeated rejections and attempts to distance herself, he learns to be persistent and courageous, confessing his feelings multiple times. He grows from being a test subject into a devoted and assertive young man who is willing to fight for his love. His growth is also athletic; through his hard work with Asuka, he manages to secure a starting position on the soccer team as a defender, moving from a disinterested benchwarmer to a capable player. His notable abilities are not supernatural but rather his strong determination and his talent for soccer, which he hones through dedicated practice.
