Description
Nao Chikura is a second-year middle school student and a member of a close-knit group of friends that includes Ayumi Arihara, Kei Enomoto, and others. She is a reserved, polite, and somewhat shy girl, though she maintains a consistently cheerful and friendly demeanor. Nao is artistically gifted, being an active member of the school’s art club. Her motivations are deeply tied to her admiration for art and her desire for romantic connection. She becomes infatuated with Yukito Renjou, a former student whose painting of a cherry blossom tree inspired her. After meeting him, she asks for his guidance in creating her own artwork, but he graduates and leaves Japan, leaving her heartbroken. Later, when she learns of Hiroyuki Sogabe’s feelings for her, she gradually becomes closer to him, moving on from her first love. Nao’s role in the story is that of a supporting friend within the circle, occasionally feeling envious of the attention that Kei receives. She also has a younger sister, Koyoi Bessho, and their contrasting personalities—Nao being more outgoing and Koyoi being more timid—lead Nao to grow in empathy and understanding. A notable aspect of her personality is her slight timidity; for example, she and Koyoi stop walking home with Ayumi out of fear of the intimidating Misao Zaitsu. Nao’s key abilities lie in her artistic talent, particularly in drawing and painting, which serves as both a personal outlet and a catalyst for her romantic experiences. Her development centers on learning to navigate her feelings, moving from an idealistic crush on Yukito to a more grounded relationship with Hiroyuki, and strengthening her bond with her sister.
