Description
Mr. Satan, also known as Hercule in certain English adaptations, is a human martial artist who first appears during the Cell Games in Dragon Ball Z Kai. Born under the name Mark, he trained in a dojo called Satan Castle, and after winning the World Martial Arts Tournament multiple times following the absence of Goku and the other Z Fighters, he adopted the stage name Mr. Satan and became the reigning world champion. His public persona is that of a flamboyant, supremely confident hero, but his actual combat abilities are far below those of the superhuman warriors who silently protect Earth. When Cell threatens the planet, Mr. Satan enters the Cell Games to challenge the villain, only to be swatted away in a single blow. Nevertheless, the media and the public mistakenly credit him with Cell's defeat, and he eagerly accepts the praise, becoming the most famous and beloved figure on Earth.

Mr. Satan's personality is a blend of arrogance, showmanship, and genuine moments of decency. He craves the spotlight and adoration of the masses, often exaggerating his own feats and taking credit for victories he did not achieve. However, he is not purely selfish; he possesses a strong sense of honor and a protective instinct toward his family and friends. His motivations are driven by a desire for fame, wealth, and recognition, but also by a wish to be seen as a true hero. This internal conflict becomes more apparent as the story progresses.

In the broader narrative of Dragon Ball Z Kai, Mr. Satan serves as both comic relief and an unlikely key ally. His most significant contribution occurs during the Majin Buu saga. After the rampage of the evil Majin Buu, Mr. Satan encounters the being and, instead of fighting, attempts to befriend him. Through patience and genuine kindness, he convinces Buu to reject violence and embrace friendship, leading to the expulsion of Buu's evil nature and the emergence of a pure-hearted, childlike incarnation. This benevolent Buu becomes Mr. Satan's close companion. Later, when the evil Kid Buu threatens the universe, Mr. Satan plays a pivotal role by using his worldwide popularity to rally the people of Earth to contribute their energy to Goku's Spirit Bomb, providing the decisive power needed to defeat Buu. After the battle, the good Buu moves in with Mr. Satan, and Mr. Satan again takes public credit for the victory, but Goku and the other warriors willingly allow this to maintain their own privacy.

Mr. Satan's key relationships include his daughter Videl, who later marries Son Gohan, making him Gohan's father-in-law and connecting him to the Son family. He also develops a deep friendship with Majin Buu, acting as a caretaker and moral guide. His interactions with the Z Fighters are often strained due to his ego, but they eventually respect his unique contributions.

Over the course of the series, Mr. Satan undergoes noticeable development. He begins as a boastful fraud who avoids genuine danger, but grows into a character who willingly confronts terrifying threats and sacrifices his comfort for the greater good. His friendship with Buu softens his vanity and reveals a compassionate side.

In terms of abilities, Mr. Satan is a highly skilled martial artist by human standards, having won multiple world tournaments. He possesses considerable strength, speed, and technique, but he lacks any ability to manipulate ki, fly, or perform energy attacks. His signature moves include the Dynamite Kick, Megaton Punch, and the Dynamic Mess Em Up Punch. Despite his limited power compared to the Z Fighters, his charisma, resourcefulness, and influence over the public make him an indispensable asset in the final battle against Majin Buu.
