TV-Series
Description
Madoka Ayukawa is one of the central characters in the story. She is a junior high school student who possesses a striking adult allure, with long black hair and a composed demeanor. Her family consists of kind-hearted but workaholic professional musicians who are often touring abroad, leaving her to live in a large house initially with her older sister and later alone after her sister marries and moves overseas.

Her personality is complex and embodies the term kimagure, meaning whimsical or capricious. When first encountered outside of school, she can appear pretty and sweet, but at school she maintains an aloof and intimidating presence, feared by both male and female students as a reputed juvenile delinquent. This tough exterior masks a deeply kind and altruistic nature that she reveals only to those she trusts, such as her best friend Hikaru Hiyama and the protagonist Kyosuke Kasuga. Her motivations are largely driven by her secret romantic feelings for Kyosuke, a love she conceals out of loyalty to Hikaru, who also loves him. This internal conflict forms the emotional core of her role in the story.

Madoka is a key figure in the love triangle that defines the narrative. Her relationship with Kyosuke is marked by mutual attraction but also by hesitation and misunderstanding, as she often masks her true feelings with her capricious behavior. Her friendship with Hikaru is deep and genuine, yet strained by their shared affection for Kyosuke. These relationships are central to her character development.

Over the course of the series, Madoka undergoes significant personal growth. After befriending Kyosuke, she begins to shed her tough exterior. She gives up smoking, becomes friendlier, and her academic performance improves. Her evolution involves learning to embrace vulnerability and prioritize genuine connection over her defensive reputation.

Madoka possesses several notable abilities. She is academically gifted, earning high marks, and also excels athletically. A unique skill is her proficiency with a guitar pick, which she can wield with such precision that it earns her the nickname Madoka the Pick. She also plays the saxophone and works part-time at a cafe called ABCB. Her combination of intelligence, physical coordination, and a mysterious, mature aura makes her a compelling and unconventional heroine.
