Description
Homura, designated as Sekirei Number 06, is a resident of the Izumo Inn and becomes the sixth and final Sekirei to be winged by Minato Sahashi. Known as the Sekirei Guardian, Homura took on the self-appointed mission of protecting unwinged Sekirei during the early stages of the Sekirei Plan, a task given to him by Sahashi Takami. For a long time, he concealed his true identity by living under the alias Kagari, working as a popular and skilled entertainer at a host club in an attempt to find a female Ashikabi, as he was reluctant to be bound to a male partner.

Homura possesses the ability to create, control, and manipulate fire, a power that is reflected in his name, which literally means flame. He often lights his cigarettes with his own power, a habit he exhibits when anxious. His powers are noted to be exceptionally strong; Tsukiumi speculates that he was the most powerful unwinged Sekirei before being claimed. However, these abilities are inherently unstable due to his nature as a prototype Sekirei. Before being winged, he frequently lost control of his flames, to the point where they would nearly consume him. His attacks include shaping his fire into forms such as a dragon, known as Enryu, or a sword, referred to as Honoo no Tsurugi. He can also combine his abilities with another Sekirei, Tsukiumi, to perform a Steam Dragon attack.

Personality-wise, Homura is generally calm, collected, and gentle, often serving as one of Minato's most level-headed and experienced advisors in battle, alongside Matsu. He is highly protective of Minato and his fellow Sekirei, though he typically refrains from participating in the more frivolous competitions for their Ashikabi's attention. Despite his usual composure, he harbors a deep-seated and quick-tempered hatred for Hiroto Minaka, the Director of MBI, whom he blames for manipulating the lives of Sekirei for his own game. This animosity drives him to seek an end to the Sekirei Plan, even claiming that his goal of killing Minaka remains unchanged after being winged.

Homura's role in the story is defined by his unique and unstable biology, as both his power and his gender are not fixed. Although he continues to think and act as a man, his body begins to undergo feminization after he starts reacting to Minato, which causes him great stress as he is uncomfortable with the idea of a male Ashikabi. This internal conflict eventually leads him to leave the Izumo Inn in a desperate attempt to confront Minaka directly. When he is attacked by other Sekirei seeking to capture him, he attempts suicide through self-immolation rather than becoming a trophy in Minaka's game. Minato arrives and refuses to let Homura sacrifice himself, instead winging him to save his life.

This event stabilizes Homura's powers but accelerates the physical changes in his body, causing him to develop more feminine traits. Minato gains the power to determine Homura's gender but chooses to let him remain who he wants to be, an act that earns him Homura's respect. Throughout his development, Homura struggles with his feelings for his male Ashikabi, a running gag where he repeatedly convinces himself he is not interested in the affection Minato shows his other Sekirei. Over time, and through his relationships with his fellow Sekirei at the Inn—such as his friendly rivalry with Tsukiumi and his camaraderie with Kazehana and Matsu—he gradually comes to accept his situation. By the end of the story, he makes peace with himself and is able to openly acknowledge that Minato is truly his chosen Ashikabi.
