Description
Alejandro Corner is a central antagonist in the first season of Mobile Suit Gundam 00. He is a tall man of 188 centimeters with light brown hair and black eyes, born on May 11, 2271. His public identity is that of a sophisticated diplomat serving as a United Nations ambassador representing the Union of Solar Energy and Free Nations. However, this position is a carefully constructed facade that conceals his true, far more significant role. Privately, Alejandro is a high-ranking Observer for the paramilitary organization Celestial Being, tasked with monitoring the progress of its armed interventions to eradicate war.

This dual existence is the product of a centuries-long conspiracy. Alejandro is the heir to the Corner family, a lineage that had served as Observers for Celestial Being for generations. For nearly two hundred years, his family secretly harbored a plan to betray the organization, seize control of its super-computer, Veda, and use its power to rule the world. This ambition, described as the Corner family's two-hundred-year dream, was instilled in Alejandro from birth, shaping his education and destiny. He was groomed not only in political science to become a ruler but also in combat, serving a term in the Union military as a pilot of the VMS-15 Union Realdo to prepare for a future role as a hero who would defeat the Gundams.

Personality-wise, Alejandro is defined by his immense arrogance, ruthless ambition, and an egomaniacal god complex. He is a man utterly convinced of his right to lead humanity according to his own vision. He views the founder of Celestial Being, Aeolia Schenberg, as a fool who attempted to manipulate mankind from the shadows, and he considers Schenberg's idealistic plan to end all conflict to be ludicrous. Ironically, Alejandro accuses Schenberg of acting like a god while simultaneously pursuing his own path to deific power. This grandiose self-image is reflected in his ostentatious tastes, most notably his fascination with the color gold. His suits, jewelry, personal firearm, and his ultimate weapons are all bedecked in this gaudy, regal color, symbolizing his worldly ambitions and desire to be seen as a divine or angelic figure.

Alejandro's primary motivation is to usurp Aeolia Schenberg's plan for humanity and replace it with his own vision of a unified world under his absolute control. To achieve this, he meticulously orchestrates a series of events from behind the scenes. He is the mastermind who commissions the creation of the Throne Gundams and the rogue Gundam Meister team, Trinity, using them to commit atrocities that turn global public opinion against Celestial Being. Simultaneously, he provides the three great power blocs with the GN-X, a mass-produced mobile suit powered by a pseudo-GN Drive, giving them the technological means to fight back. This two-pronged strategy is designed to drive the world into a united military alliance against Celestial Being, paving the way for Alejandro to emerge as the savior who defeats the Gundams and seizes power.

The most pivotal relationship in his life is with his young assistant, Ribbons Almark. Alejandro considers Ribbons his "angel" and trusts him implicitly, believing him to be a loyal tool who can interface with Veda. He is completely unaware that Ribbons has his own agenda. This relationship ultimately defines his downfall. With Ribbons's help, Alejandro infiltrates the secret Celestial Being base on the Moon, gains access to Veda's core, and personally shoots the cryogenically frozen Aeolia Schenberg. However, this act triggers a booby trap that activates the Gundams' hidden Trans-Am System, a development that would later lead to his defeat. Moments before his death, he realizes the ultimate betrayal: Ribbons had been manipulating him all along, referring to him as nothing more than a "clown" in a larger scheme.

Alejandro's role in the story culminates in a final, desperate battle. He pilots a colossal golden mobile armor, the GNMA-XCVII Alvatore, which contains a hidden mobile suit, the GNMS-XCVII Alvaaron. Deploying this machine, he personally enters the battle against the original Gundams, seeking to cement his legacy. Despite the Alvatore's overwhelming firepower and defensive GN Field, which allows him to severely damage the Ptolemaios and several Gundams, he is ultimately outmatched. In a climactic duel, the Gundam Exia, having activated its newly unlocked Trans-Am System, pierces his defenses and destroys his machine with its Seven Swords attack. As his golden suit explodes around him, a dying Alejandro screams Ribbons's name in fury, having finally understood that he was never the architect of his own victory, but a pawn discarded by his own "angel".

Notably, Alejandro is an experienced and capable mobile suit pilot, having served in the Union military early in his career. This practical combat experience gave him insight into piloting and allowed him to handle the sophisticated Alvatore and Alvaaron effectively in battle. His death marks a major turning point in the first season, as his defeat and betrayal clear the way for Ribbons Almark to take control of Veda and establish the Innovators, setting the stage for the next conflict.
