Description
Mu La Flaga is first introduced in Mobile Suit Gundam SEED as a lieutenant in the Earth Alliance's 7th Space Fleet. A Natural, he earns the nickname the Hawk of Endymion after piloting a TS-MA2mod.00 Moebius Zero and shooting down five ZGMF-1017 GINN mobile suits in the Battle of Endymion, a feat previously considered impossible for a mobile armor pilot. After his original mothership is destroyed during the ZAFT invasion of Heliopolis, he takes shelter aboard the Archangel and becomes a key member of its crew. He develops a close bond with the ship's captain, Murrue Ramius, and serves as a mentor and source of encouragement for Kira Yamato, accepting the Coordinator pilot without prejudice. Mu pilots the FX-550 Skygrasper and later the GAT-X105 Strike Gundam, which Kira configures for Natural operation. During the final battle of the First Alliance-PLANT War at Jachin Due, Mu is thought killed when he sacrifices himself to shield the Archangel from an attack by Rau Le Creuset.
Mu La Flaga has a carefree, boastful, and lighthearted personality. He is confident and often makes humorous remarks to lift the spirits of those around him, though his casual manner can sometimes overstep boundaries, particularly in his interactions with Murrue. In combat, he becomes focused and tactically sharp, demonstrating exceptional spatial awareness and piloting skill. He does not hold prejudice against Coordinators and judges individuals by their actions rather than their genetic status. His personal motto is that he can make the impossible possible, reflecting his resourcefulness and determination. His early life is marked by rejection from his father, Al Da Flaga, whom he considers a greedy and selfish man. Al Da Flaga regarded Mu as a cursed child and favored a clone of himself, who would grow up to become Rau Le Creuset. This connection gives Mu an unusual ability to sense when Rau is nearby and adds a deeply personal dimension to their rivalry.
In Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny, Mu La Flaga returns under the amnesiac identity of Neo Roanoke. After his apparent death, he is rescued by Earth Alliance forces, suffering severe injuries and complete memory loss. He is given the false identity and placed in command of the Phantom Pain special forces unit, taking orders directly from Lord Djibril. As Neo Roanoke, his personality becomes colder and more calculating. He commands the Extended pilots Sting Oakley, Stella Loussier, and Auel Neider, frequently using false promises to control them, such as misleading Stella about the safety of what she holds dear and breaking a promise to Shinn Asuka regarding Stella's combat deployment. He pilots the GAT-04 Windam on Earth and the TS-MA4F Exass mobile armor in space, later taking control of the ZGMF-X24S Chaos Gundam after Sting Oakley's death. Despite his altered identity, fragments of his original personality begin to surface over time, including his characteristic sarcastic remarks and the phrase about making the impossible possible. Encounters with the Archangel and especially with Murrue Ramius gradually trigger the return of his memories. The transformation culminates in the final battle at Messiah, where he once again shields the Archangel, this time piloting the ORB-01 Akatsuki Gundam, and fully regains his identity as Mu La Flaga. He then rejoins his former allies, bringing his skills and experience back to the side he originally fought for.
