Description
Dalida Lolaha Chandra II is a recurring supporting character in the Cosmic Era timeline, first appearing in Mobile Suit Gundam SEED. He is a Natural, born on January 11, Cosmic Era 47, which places him at twenty-four years old during the First Alliance-PLANT War. Of average height with brown hair and dark-colored eyes, he is often seen wearing the standard uniform of the Earth Alliance or the Orb Union military. His given name has various romanizations, including Dalida or Darida, but his role as a dedicated bridge officer remains consistent across his appearances.

As a member of the Earth Alliance military, Chandra II is originally assigned to the warship Archangel as a crewman in the Combat Information Center. He works directly alongside Sai Argyle, another member of the ship's CIC staff, where he is responsible for operating electronic warfare stations. His duties are not limited to combat operations, however, as he is also tasked with managing the group of civilian volunteers who find themselves trapped on the Archangel after the attack on the neutral colony Heliopolis. This responsibility places him in a position of oversight concerning the civilian students, including Kira Yamato, Flay Allster, and Miriallia Haw.

Personality-wise, Chandra II is depicted as a reliable and approachable senior figure among the Archangel's crew. Alongside Mu La Flaga, he serves as a friendly and supportive older brother figure, particularly toward the young civilian volunteers who have been thrust into military life. He is known for his level-headed demeanor and competence under pressure, but he also has a more human and relatable side, as shown when he expresses disbelief and shock upon learning that the Freedom Gundam is powered by a nuclear reactor, quickly deducing the implications of the Neutron Jammer Canceller technology. This moment demonstrates his sharp technical mind and ability to process complex information rapidly. In moments of high emotion, such as when Kira Yamato returns to the Archangel after being presumed dead, Chandra II can be seen struggling to find the right words, expressing his amazement that his comrade is not a ghost. This blend of technical competence and genuine emotional reaction makes him a grounded and believable member of the support staff.

Throughout the First Alliance-PLANT War, Chandra II remains one of the few original crew members to survive the numerous battles the Archangel endures. Following the Battle of JOSH-A, a pivotal conflict on Earth, he abandons his post with the Earth Alliance alongside the rest of the Archangel's crew, choosing to follow Captain Murrue Ramius rather than obey orders he finds morally objectionable. This act of defiance marks him as a deserter from the Alliance's perspective. After the war concludes with the Second Battle of Jachin Due, Chandra II, like many others who served on the Archangel, cannot return to the Earth Alliance. He is given a new identity and takes up residence in the Orb Union, seeking refuge from potential persecution.

Chandra II's sense of loyalty ultimately draws him back into conflict during the Second Alliance-PLANT War. In late Cosmic Era 73, he responds to a request from Murrue Ramius to rejoin the Archangel's crew. The ship is reactivated to protect Orb's representative, Cagalli Yula Athha, from the Seiran family, a pro-Blue Cosmos faction attempting to seize control of Orb and force it into an alliance with the Earth Alliance. Reuniting with his former shipmates, Chandra II serves aboard the Archangel throughout the entirety of the second war, once again manning his post in the CIC and contributing to the ship's combat effectiveness. His technical expertise remains an asset, and his steady presence reinforces the core group of loyalists who trust in Captain Ramius and the ship's mission.

Chandra II continues his service into the era of the Compass agency, the global peace monitoring organization established after the second war. Like other former Archangel crew members, he is seconded from the Orb Defense Force to Compass. In the animated film, he takes on the role of the Archangel's gunnery or shooting指挥官, a position previously held by other officers, further demonstrating his growth and adaptability. Following the Archangel's sinking due to a trap set by the Foundation kingdom, Chandra II survives and does not board the new vessel Millennium. Instead, he joins Sai Argyle and Miriallia Haw aboard a Cavalier Airfrigate unit, where he once again performs communication and traffic control duties, proving that his ability to work in coordination with his longtime colleagues remains invaluable.

As a specialist in electronics and electronic warfare, Chandra II possesses skills that go beyond standard operation. He is shown to be capable of modifying captured ZAFT sonar technology for use on the Archangel, marking him as a talented engineer in addition to his combat information duties. His progression from a non-commissioned officer of the Atlantic Federation to a commissioned officer lieutenant in Compass reflects his dedication, experience, and the high regard in which his superiors hold him. Throughout his journey, Dalida Lolaha Chandra II embodies the role of the steadfast support crewman. He is not a mobile suit pilot nor a central decision-maker, but his technical skill, loyalty, and quiet competence make him an essential part of the Archangel's enduring legacy.
