Description
Natale Bajirule is a supporting character in the anime Mobile Suit Gundam Seed. She comes from a long line of military service, and it was always expected that she would continue that tradition as a career soldier in the Earth Alliance. Her upbringing instilled a deep respect for military discipline and the chain of command, making her a strict and by-the-book officer.
Natale is first introduced as the combat information center officer and later the executive officer of the Earth Alliance battleship Archangel. She is a superb tactical analyst with keen judgment and a knack for making swift decisions under pressure, often using her composure to save the ship and its crew in critical moments. Her personality is defined by a rigid adherence to regulations and a pragmatic approach to decision-making, which frequently puts her at odds with the more empathetic and emotionally driven acting captain, Murrue Ramius. Despite their clashes, the two women develop a deep mutual respect and a form of friendship, though neither would readily admit to it.
Driven by her sense of duty and the values of her upbringing, Natale prioritizes the mission above all else. She is willing to take harsh measures to achieve her objectives, seeing it as the only logical course of action. This rigid worldview, combined with the pressures of the war, leads her down a darker path. She eventually transfers off the Archangel and is assigned as the captain of the Dominion, a new battleship identical to the Archangel. In this role, she takes orders from Muruta Azrael, the extremist leader of Blue Cosmos, an anti-Coordinator group. Her alliance with Azrael places her in direct conflict with the crew of the Archangel, including her former friend.
Natale's character undergoes a significant development during the final battle at Jachin Due. While serving Azrael, she is forced to confront the extreme and indiscriminate nature of his orders. When Azrael attempts to fire a weapon of mass destruction, Natale makes a pivotal choice. She turns on him, attempting to stop the attack and ordering a ceasefire. In the ensuing struggle, she is critically wounded. In her final moments, she regains her sense of duty and honor, ordering her crew to abandon ship and then directly asking Murrue Ramius to destroy the Dominion, ensuring it cannot be used to cause further harm. This final, self-sacrificing act redeems her and highlights the internal conflict between her ingrained military discipline and her own moral awakening. Her notable abilities include her sharp tactical mind, her skill in commanding and managing a warship's combat information center, and her ability to make rapid, calculated decisions in the heat of battle.
