Description
Komiyan, often referred to as Komiyan III in the game, is a supporting character in the anime.hack//Legend of the Twilight. He is the in-game avatar of Komiyama, a fourteen-year-old boy in his third year of junior high school. In reality, he is a classmate of the twin protagonists Shugo and Rena Kunisaki, and he has a pronounced crush on Rena.

Within the fictional MMORPG The World, Komiyan III adopts a pompous and boastful personality. He proclaims himself the King of Aloofness and claims to be the ultimate authority on the game, particularly regarding Grunties, the large bird-like mounts that players can use. He constantly rides his personal Noble Grunty named Oscar and takes great pride in his avatar. Despite his arrogant front, he is a reasonably competent player and can be counted on in a fight.

His primary motivation in the series is to gain the affection of Rena, though his efforts are consistently ignored or rejected, leading to many comedic situations. He is unable to take hints, and his distinctive laugh often betrays his offline identity. His role in the story is that of a minor ally and source of comic relief; he appears alongside Shugo and Rena's group on occasion, offering his knowledge of the game and his mount to assist them, though he does not play a central part in the main conflict concerning the Twilight Bracelet or the rogue AI.

In terms of development, Komiyan remains a largely static character throughout the series. He does not experience significant growth or change, serving instead as a consistent comedic presence. His key relationships are with Shugo and Rena, especially his unreciprocated admiration for Rena. With Shugo, he maintains a friendly but somewhat rivalrous dynamic. He also shares a close bond with his grunty Oscar.

Notable abilities include his extensive knowledge of Grunties and game mechanics, his skill as a player despite his bragging, and his unique riding of a Noble Grunty mount. His comedic timing and distinctive laugh are also traits that define his character.
