Description
Coco JD is the younger sister of the main protagonist, Dan JD. She is a young girl who uses a wheelchair as a result of a tragic accident in her childhood, when a Bigfoot mecha stepped on her and severed the nerves in her leg. This event is the central tragedy of her life and the primary motivation for her brother's actions throughout the story.
Before the accident, Coco had a bright and cheerful personality and was a skilled basketball player, even considered better than her brother. The life-changing injury, which the standard medicine of Earth Dash could not cure, caused her personality to shift dramatically. In the present, she presents a blunt, cold, and often indifferent demeanor, particularly toward her brother. She frequently responds to his well-meaning gestures with sharp remarks, such as telling a stranger that the bread she offered was not poisoned, and is generally unimpressed by Dans constant attempts to bring her gifts.
Despite this seemingly harsh exterior, her motivations are rooted in a deep concern for Dan. Her coldness is a defense mechanism; it is painful for her to watch him sacrifice his own happiness and constantly worry about her. She feels like a burden and hopes that by pushing him away, he will stop dedicating his entire life to finding a cure for her legs and live for himself. She still possesses a warm heart, demonstrated when she teaches basketball to Alan Naismith, showing that her love for the sport and her caring nature remain intact beneath her cynical shell.
Within the story, Coco acts as a powerful emotional anchor for Dan's quest to reach the Moon, the one place where her injury might be treated. She is also a surprisingly influential figure from behind the scenes. Using her technological skills and the internet, she supports herself and her brother financially and becomes a key information distributor. She is the one who writes and posts the online news articles that chronicle the actions of Dan and his team as they gain fame. Her perspective is unique; she watches the Basquash matches not just as a spectator but as someone trying to understand what people truly want from the sport and what her brother is trying to achieve.
Her key relationships are primarily with her brother Dan, who is devoted to her, and with the mysterious figure known as Slash. It is later revealed that her accident was not an accident at all, but a deliberate act of sabotage. She was originally intended to be the Legend, but a faction opposing the Slash Kings manipulated events to remove her from the path and seize control of the narrative. This revelation ties her directly to the larger conspiracy at the heart of the series. Eventually, she is taken to the Moon and undergoes a successful surgery to heal her legs, though she is still undergoing rehabilitation in the epilogue. Her abilities include a high level of basketball knowledge from her youth, sharp intelligence, and proficiency with computers and online networks.
