Description
Chouyo is a prominent character in the anime Cooking Master Boy, recognized as the vice chef of the Yosen Shuka restaurant in Guangzhou. He is the father of Mei Li, one of the main characters, and serves as a stern but respected authority figure within the culinary world. In his role at the restaurant, he manages daily operations and is the direct superior of Liu Mao Xing, the protagonist, having taught the young chef the fundamentals of knife work and heat control, thus acting as a mentor and father figure to him.

Chouyo is a man of few words who rarely reveals his emotions, often presenting a stern and arrogant demeanor that can come across as cold. He carries himself with the confidence of a master chef, to the point of expressing that certain cooking challenges will be easy for him. Despite his prickly exterior, his actions are driven by a deep sense of responsibility for his daughter and his restaurant. His past is marked by a significant and bitter rivalry with a fellow chef known as the Masked Chef or Li En, whose real name is Li Yan. This history, which involves a cooking contest for the affection of Mei Lis late mother, is a key motivation for Chouyu, as it surfaces years later to endanger his family and force him to confront past mistakes, revealing a more vulnerable and haunted side to his character.

Chouyos role in the story is that of a skilled mentor and a formidable chef whose past directly impacts the present plot. Early on, he tests Mao by having him cook a simple dish of bakchoy in the challenging environment of Guangzhou, an event that allows Mao to prove his talent and gain entry into the culinary world. Chouyos primary narrative arc unfolds when he and Mei Li are summoned to an abandoned mansion and poisoned by his old rival, the Masked Chef. This leads to a high-stakes rematch of a lobster cooking contest from their past, where the antidote is the prize. Although he is stung by a scorpion placed in his ingredients and rendered unconscious, this event allows Mao to step in and defeat the antagonist, furthering the protagonists journey while shedding light on Chouyos complex history. His connection to the Masked Chef, a former fellow student, ties him to the series larger conflict with the Underground Cooking world, a dark organization that targets him and Mao next.

His development is largely revealed through flashbacks and confrontations with his past. A previously arrogant young chef, his history with the Masked Chef and the loss of his wife are wounds that define his present personality. The story sees him moving from a purely authoritative mentor to a figure who must rely on his protégé, Mao, to save his life, showcasing a quiet shift in his relationships and a resigned acknowledgment of the younger chefs growth. As a special acupuncturist considered the best in Guangzhou, he possesses medical knowledge that complements his culinary arts. His cooking mastery is demonstrated through breathtaking technical skill, most notably when he creates a massive, intricate ice sculpture of a dragon soaring into the sky, an act that shows his complete artistic and technical mastery. His skills are formidable enough that the leaders of the Guangzhou Cooking world act as judges in his matches, and he is keenly able to analyze other chefs techniques, such as identifying an underground cooks hidden trump card in a battle.
