Description
Minarai is a rabbit who once lived in an unspecified place and was raised by the people around him, receiving constant pampering and attention. Over time, that attention faded, and he found himself struggling to get by. Eventually, he resorted to eating without paying, a low point that led to his rescue by Oyakata, the boss of the construction company Zenryoku Koumuten (Full Power Construction). Oyakata took him in and gave him a job as a trainee at the company, where he became known simply as Minarai, a name that reflects his role as an apprentice.
By nature, Minarai is quiet and docile, with a generally gentle demeanor. He draws his own eyebrows each day, a small personal habit that adds to his distinctive appearance. His primary motivation is finding his next meal; when food is in sight, he will devour anything with great enthusiasm. This drive, combined with his earnest willingness to work hard, defines much of his early behavior on the job.
Minarai serves as the main protagonist of Zenryoku Usagi. His role in the story is that of the newcomer who gradually learns the ropes of construction work alongside a colorful cast of coworkers. At first, he is awkward and prone to mistakes, but he approaches every task with a full-hearted, almost desperate effort. This earnest attitude slowly earns him the recognition and respect of his more experienced colleagues. Despite his clumsiness, his persistence and refusal to give up even when laughed at become his defining traits.
Key relationships shape his journey. Oyakata is his benefactor and the boss who gave him a second chance. Eigyou, a senior employee, is assigned as Minarai’s instructor, guiding him through daily tasks. Souchou, a former gang leader and now a family man with nine children, also works alongside him. Ojou, a small but sharp-tongued rabbit who speaks disrespectfully to everyone, often clashes with him but also provides comic relief. Neesan, a former office lady who once worked at a major bank, finds Minarai’s presence soothing and is the one person in the crew who is genuinely healed by his gentle aura. Another coworker, Mikuro-san, is a mysterious figure whose background remains unknown, sparking various rumors among the team.
Throughout the series, Minarai undergoes a clear development. He starts as a dependent, pampered rabbit who had no real direction, then transforms into a hardworking and reliable member of the construction team. His growth is marked by his increasing competence on the worksite and his deepening bonds with his coworkers. He learns to take pride in his work and to support others, eventually becoming a valued presence that transcends mere workplace relationships.
Minarai’s notable abilities include a natural healing aura that comforts those around him, especially Neesan. He also possesses an impressive capacity for eating large amounts of food quickly when hungry. His most significant trait, however, is his unwavering determination to give his full effort no matter how small or difficult the task, a quality that embodies the motto of Zenryoku Koumuten. This attitude, despite his initial lack of skill, eventually wins over even the most skeptical of his peers.
