Description
Gen Takekura, known to nearly everyone by his nickname Musashi, is a second-year student at Deimon High School and serves as the placekicker for the Deimon Devil Bats football team. He holds the position of kicker and occasionally plays as a linebacker, wearing jersey number 11. His nickname, Musashi, is a direct reference to the legendary Japanese swordsman Miyamoto Musashi, and the kanji in his last name, Takekura, can be read the same way. Standing at 177 cm (5 feet 9 inches) and weighing 77 kg (169 pounds), he has a bench press of 90 kg and runs the 40-yard dash in 5.6 seconds. Despite being only 17 years old, his buzz-cut hairstyle, slight stubble, and muscular, well-built physique from construction work cause him to be frequently mistaken for an adult.

Musashi is one of the three original founding members of the Devil Bats, having formed the team in middle school with his two closest friends, the demonic quarterback Yoichi Hiruma and the gentle giant Ryokan Kurita. The three attended Maou 13th Middle School together, where they first established the core of what would become the Deimon team. However, during the spring of his freshman year of high school, Musashis father became seriously ill. Feeling a profound sense of responsibility, he made the difficult decision to drop out of school and take over his father's construction company, which also forced him to abandon the football team he had helped create. For an extended period, he worked as the construction foreman for Deimon High School, a role that kept him physically present on campus but emotionally distant from his former teammates.

In terms of personality, Musashi is the calm and level-headed anchor of the Devil Bats. He is one of the few people who is completely unafraid of Hirumas intimidating and manipulative nature, often speaking plainly to him or even insulting him without hesitation. He typically maintains a serious, stoic demeanor and speaks very little, which, combined with his physical appearance, makes him seem much older and wiser than his peers. Despite this exterior, he possesses a dry, sometimes blunt sense of humor. He has a habit of making insensitive or dismissive statements, such as calling the team weak when asked to rejoin, but these are usually a cover for his more noble and self-sacrificing true motives. He deeply cares for his friends and harbors a burning, unfulfilled desire to return to the sport he loves.

Musashis primary motivation is a sense of duty and responsibility. He initially refuses to rejoin the Devil Bats not because he lacks the will to play, but because he feels it is his duty to manage the family business while his father is ill. He agrees to return only after meeting new first-year members Sena and Monta, but only on the condition that they build the team into a truly strong contender. His return to the team differs between the original manga and the anime adaptation. In the manga, he makes his dramatic comeback during a game against the Seibu Wild Gunmen, spurred on by a weak punch from his ailing father, who shamed him for abandoning his comrades. In the anime, his return is delayed until the match against the Bando Spiders, where he develops a notable rivalry with the opposing kicker, Kotaro Sasaki.

As the team's kicker, Musashi possesses an incredibly powerful right leg, a talent he developed and strengthened through his rigorous work in construction. His signature technique is the high-altitude kickoff, where he launches the ball to such an extreme height that it forces the receiving team to retreat deep into their own territory, allowing the Devil Bats defense to swarm down and pin them near their goal line. He is also known for his onside kicks and his raw power, which is strong enough to kick a hole in a steel fence. He is famously known as the 60-Yard Magnum, a legendary title that was actually a complete fabrication created by Hiruma to intimidate opponents, a fact that Musashi himself often tries to clarify. Although the nickname was originally a lie, Musashi eventually lives up to it during the climactic Christmas Bowl. On the final play of the game, he successfully kicks a 60-yard field goal, securing the national championship for the Deimon Devil Bats and proving the legend true.

His relationships with the other founders are central to his character. His connection with Hiruma is particularly deep; Hiruma famously did not use his blackmail tactics to recruit Musashi in middle school, stating he wanted a comrade, not a puppet. When Musashi quit the team, Hiruma secretly offered to blackmail the principal for money to save his family company, showing the depth of his loyalty. Upon his return, Musashi serves as an emotional pillar for the team, often doling out rare physical corrections to Hiruma or providing sagely advice to the younger players. In a comedic omake strip following his return, Hiruma and Kurita punish him for his absence by taking him to a barber, where they shave his head into a mohawk, which becomes his lasting hairstyle for the remainder of the series.
