TV-Series
Description
Mamori Anezaki is a second-year student at Deimon Private Senior High School and serves as the club manager for the Deimon Devil Bats American football team. She is one of the main characters in the story. Mamori has been Sena Kobayakawa’s childhood friend since their mothers met in a cooking class. Her mother is half-Japanese and half-American, making Mamori one-quarter American. From primary school onward, she has consistently protected Sena from bullies, to the point that Sena never had to stand up for himself. When Sena is forced into the Devil Bats by the manipulative quarterback Yoichi Hiruma, Mamori decides to join the club as its manager in order to keep an eye on Sena and protect him from what she sees as Hiruma’s bullying.

Mamori is an overprotective, motherly, and kind young woman. She excels academically in all subjects except art, at which she is notably poor, and she helped Sena pass his high school entrance exam. She is also a member of the school’s disciplinary committee. Despite her initial opposition to Hiruma, she develops into a highly competent manager. She memorized the entire rulebook of American football in a single night and can answer Hiruma’s most detailed questions. Because she struggles with computers, she devises all of her game strategies and analysis on paper, an approach that proves effective. She also helps with play-calling and gives signals from the sidelines, making her an integral part of the team’s tactical operations.

Mamori’s primary motivation is to protect Sena, but as she becomes more involved with the Devil Bats, her role grows beyond that protective impulse. She comes to genuinely care about the team’s success and contributes to their journey toward the Christmas Bowl. Her personality includes a strong sense of duty, loyalty, and a fierce dedication to her friends. She has a lighter side as well: she is a devoted fan of the actress Audrey Hepburn, and she has a particular obsession with cream puffs—so much so that when the topic comes up, her demeanor changes dramatically in a comedic way.

Her key relationships are with Sena, whom she treats almost like a younger brother; with Hiruma, with whom she constantly bickers but gradually comes to understand and even see a softer side; and with the other Devil Bats members. For example, Monta (Taro Raimon) initially joins the team under the false impression that he is needed to protect Mamori from the mysterious Eyeshield 21. Mamori also develops a close bond with Suzuna Taki, who often teases her about her feelings toward Hiruma. Over the course of the series, Mamori learns the truth about Sena’s secret identity as Eyeshield 21—she discovers it in episode 82 when Sena removes his helmet in front of her—and she supports him after that revelation.

In terms of development, Mamori starts as a protective, sometimes overbearing childhood friend who is suspicious of the football club, but she evolves into a confident, knowledgeable manager who contributes strategic insight and emotional support to the team. Her abilities include rapid learning, detailed memory, analytical thinking, and the capacity to work with Hiruma despite their differences. She also has a bench press of 20 kg and stands 162 cm tall. Her birthday is November 24.

Overall, Mamori Anezaki is a central figure in the Deimon Devil Bats’ story. Her blend of protective instincts, academic intelligence, growing tactical expertise, and evolving relationships with the team members makes her much more than a simple manager; she is an indispensable part of the squad’s success.
