Description
Masumi Fuyuki is a transfer student who moves into the neighborhood of the Minami sisters and becomes their neighbor. He first appears in the second season of the anime and is an original character created for that season, meaning he does not appear in the original manga. Fuyuki lives with his father, who is almost never present, and this neglect is the reason he must continually move from place to place, leaving him feeling lonely. His background of frequent relocation and a distant parent contributes to his withdrawn and hesitant nature. The defining aspect of his personality is his complete inability to refuse any favor or demand that is asked of him. This trait causes him constant trouble, as those around him take advantage of his inability to say no, frequently pushing tasks and responsibilities onto him. This behavior particularly irritates Chiaki Minami, who finds his passive, easily exploited nature frustrating. Fuyuki has trouble expressing his own feelings honestly, which further isolates him and makes his interactions with others awkward. His main motivation appears to be a desire to fit in and avoid conflict, leading him to oblige others even when it is to his own detriment. He is a quiet and lonely boy whose hobby is reading manga, which Kana Minami often borrows. His role in the story is that of a supporting character who becomes part of the extended circle of friends and acquaintances surrounding the Minami household. His interactions with the sisters, especially Chiaki and Kana, often highlight his inability to assert himself and create comedic situations. He does not undergo significant visible character development over the course of the season, remaining defined by his repressed and obliging nature. He possesses no special abilities; his notable characteristic is his extreme passivity and inability to refuse requests, which serves as the central source of his comedic and interpersonal conflicts.
