Description
Mitsuru Sano is a forward and attacking midfielder for the Japanese national team in the universe of Captain Tsubasa: Sekai Daikessen!! Jr. World Cup. He originally played for Hirado Middle School, where he developed a notable partnership with his larger counterpart Hiroshi Jito, forming the so-called Hirado Combi. Sano is physically smaller and more nimble than Jito, which gives him excellent ball control and balance. This agility is not only evident on the pitch but also off it, as shown when he once balanced on a narrow stadium ledge to challenge the Nankatsu Middle School team.

Within the Japanese national youth setup, Sano typically wears the number 16 jersey and serves as a substitute who can be called upon to replace other forwards such as the Tachibana twins or Shun Nitta. He is valued for his energetic and speedy contributions when coming off the bench, often revitalizing the team's attack in the final minutes of a match.

Sano's motivation is rooted in a strong sense of devotion to the team, and his playing style is marked by exceptional ball-keeping ability and quick dribbling skills. In later storylines, including the Olympic qualifiers, Sano continues to be selected for the national team and expands his repertoire by studying futsal techniques, inspired by teammates he meets during the Olympic selection camp. His development shows a player who actively learns from his surroundings to improve his game.

His personality is characterized by a calm determination and a willingness to take on challenges with a steady sense of balance, both metaphorical and physical. He does not seek the spotlight but instead focuses on supporting the team through reliable technical play and smart positioning.

Sano's key relationship is with Jito, as their contrasting physical attributes create an effective combination play. He also shares a strong sense of camaraderie with the rest of the Japanese national team, fitting into the group as a dependable supporting player. Throughout the film and the broader series, Sano refines his technical skills and proves himself as a capable player who can adapt to different roles when needed. His main abilities include sharp dribbling, close ball control, and the capacity to execute futsal-inspired moves, making him a versatile option for the team.
