Description
Marchis is a supporting character in the anime Pumpkin Scissors, serving as a warrant officer and later a sub-lieutenant in the Imperial Army State Section III, also known as the Pumpkin Scissors unit. He is a slight, bespectacled young man with short black hair and brown eyes. Marchis graduated as one of the top students of the Imperial Academy a year after the war between the Royal Empire and the Republic of Frost came to an end. Following his graduation, he was initially assigned to Section I's Elite Unit as a clerk before being transferred to the Pumpkin Scissors, a move that was orchestrated by his childhood friend Oreld, who is ultimately responsible for Marchis becoming a member of the unit.
In terms of personality, Marchis is earnest and level-headed, frequently acting as the voice of reason and caution when the Pumpkin Scissors are out in the field. He tends to be pragmatic and thoughtful, often tempering the more idealistic or impulsive tendencies of his commanding officer, Alice L. Malvin. His motivations are rooted in a genuine desire to serve the empire and to see the unit's relief efforts succeed, though he approaches this duty with a practical and measured outlook rather than grand idealism. He is deeply loyal to his comrades and takes his responsibilities seriously.
Within the story, Marchis functions primarily as a reliable support officer who handles logistics, planning, and administrative tasks, allowing the unit to operate effectively. He is also a capable fighter when the situation demands it. He is well-versed in both armed and unarmed combat, and it is hinted that he possesses strong defensive-based martial arts skills. His combat abilities, combined with his organizational talent, make him a versatile asset. On one notable occasion, he served as an impromptu bodyguard for Princess Septieme Rodelia when she ventured into the city without her ministers.
Marchis maintains a close bond with his fellow Pumpkin Scissors members, particularly with Oreld, with whom he shares a long history stretching back to childhood. His relationship with Alice is one of professional respect, as he supports her leadership while occasionally offering cautionary advice. Unlike some other members of the unit, Marchis does not undergo a dramatic personal transformation over the course of the series, but he consistently demonstrates growth in his confidence and competence as a soldier and officer, steadily proving his value to the team through his intelligence, dedication, and steady demeanor.
