He engineers a confrontation over the last bottle of a rare alcohol, forcing a coin flip that he loses. When a child then enters, pleading for the same bottle to avoid paternal punishment, Jade observes Innumael relinquishing it. Though approving of this act, Jade recognizes Innumael as a wanted criminal and subtly signals this knowledge, prompting Innumael's flight.

Later, at Headkeeper’s hideout following Innumael’s return empty-handed, Jade reveals his Branch Chief status and the test’s purpose. He delivers critical updates: contact has been lost with operatives including Elfriede, and the Imperial Army has anticipated their maneuvers, leading Jade to suspect a traitor within their ranks.
