Description
Kairi Sanjou is a character who joins the Guardians of Seiyo Elementary School, taking on the role of the Jack's Chair after his predecessor leaves for middle school. He is the younger brother of Yukari Sanjou, a former employee of the Easter corporation. Kairi is initially sent to the school by his sister to act as a spy, tasked with infiltrating the Guardians and reporting on their activities as part of Easter’s plans. This mission is not something he personally desires but undertakes at his sister's request.

In terms of appearance, Kairi is notably tall for his age, standing taller than some of his senior peers in the group. He has dark green hair and wears glasses, which contribute to his studious and serious appearance. His personality is marked by intelligence, organization, and a blunt honesty about the faults of others. He is so capable and disciplined that fellow Guardians Amu and Yaya often call him class president. Despite his uptight and logical nature, Kairi also has a shy side that emerges in certain social situations, particularly around his romantic interest, Amu Hinamori. He often takes on the role of the planner during Guardian activities, leading meetings and delegating tasks.

Kairi's motivations are driven by a strong internal sense of honor, which becomes the central conflict of his personal story. While his initial task is to deceive the Guardians, he finds himself genuinely drawn to their cause and their camaraderie. Realizing the true, harmful nature of the missions his sister asks him to carry out, such as using special CDs to manipulate others, he begins to rebel. After being discovered with these items by the Guardians, Amu convinces him to follow his own conscience rather than his sister's orders. This pivotal moment leads him to switch sides, betraying Easter to help the Guardians stop the company's plot. His story arc is a journey of choosing personal integrity and friendship over familial obligation. He returns to his hometown after these events, promising to come back for Amu once he has become a man worthy of her, and his position as Jack is temporarily filled by another character.

His key relationships deeply influence his actions. He has a significant unrequited crush on Amu Hinamori, the Guardian's Joker, whose belief in his inherent goodness is instrumental in his defection from Easter. Before leaving Seiyo, he confesses his feelings to her and declares a friendly rivalry with Tadase Hotori, the King's Chair, for her affection. He also shares a close, caring bond with his older sister, Yukari, for whom he manages the household chores and whom he protects despite her morally ambiguous role in his life. In later continuations, he also develops a small mutual crush on fellow Guardian Yaya Yuiki while helping to organize a graduation event.

Kairi is able to interact with his Guardian Character, a samurai named Musashi, who represents his desire to be strong and protect the weak. Through Musashi, Kairi has two primary abilities. A Character Change gives him a samurai's ponytail and allows him to fight using a kendo sword, which he can also use to create a defensive shield. He is also capable of a full Character Transformation called Samurai Soul. In this form, his glasses disappear and he dons a green and blue samurai outfit with a long white veil. As Samurai Soul, he wields two swords and can execute a powerful attack known as the Lightning Blade.
