TV-Series
Description
Enjin Hiizumi is the primary antagonist of Yozakura Quartet, presented as a mysterious and formidable figure who serves as the mastermind behind many of the strange incidents occurring in Sakurashin Town. His physical appearance is marked by blue eyes and long blue hair that reaches his shoulders, and he is often seen wearing glasses along with a long black coat that features white fur accents. Standing at 179 centimeters tall, he presents as an adult male, though his appearance is complicated by the fact that he has taken over the body of Gin Nanami, the older brother of Ao Nanami, one of the main protagonists.

The character initially claims to be a descendant of Enyo Hiizumi, an ancestor who was once made a human pillar and sacrificed to maintain the barrier protecting the town. His stated motivation is to avenge this ancestral grudge by destroying the barrier that protects Sakurashin and triggering the blooming of the Nanagou pillars. This would merge the human and yokai realms, leading to catastrophic results. However, this claimed lineage is later revealed to be false. Records unearthed during the Nanagou excavation, including a handwritten letter from Enyo Hiizumi himself declaring the extinction of the branch family, cast serious doubt on his identity. The truth is far more unusual: Enjin Hiizumi is not a living person at all but rather a pair of glasses that was instilled with a soul and false memories by Oshu Hiizumi. This sentient artifact possesses the body of Gin Nanami to pursue its objectives, making him the only being in this world who knows the afterlife.

Despite controlling Gin's body for an extended period, Gin's own soul remains alive internally, creating a source of conflict. This lingering consciousness sometimes manifests unconsciously through Gin's habits and mannerisms, providing brief glimpses of the person trapped within. Enjin exploits this connection strategically, revealing Gin's presence to Ao Nanami, Akina Hiizumi, and Hime Yarizakura specifically to provoke emotional distress and hesitation among them. His actions are characterized by malice and a lack of scruples, as he pursues his vengeance-driven goal without regard for the suffering he causes.

In his role within the story, Enjin leads a group known as the Yokai Hunters, a collection of individuals consisting mostly of half-yokai who specialize in eliminating yokai. Gathering a large number of S-class and A-class hunters under his leadership, he directs them to attack Sakurashinmachi to further his plans. There is a mutual hatred between Enjin and the Yokai Hunters, and they agree to assist him only under the condition that once the worlds merge, they will be allowed to hunt him as well. He is aided in his schemes by Eiji Shinozuka, a loyal subordinate who remains by his side.

Enjin possesses several notable abilities that make him a dangerous opponent. His primary power is Dropping, an ability inherited from the branch family line that enables him to summon entities or souls from the Other World into the human realm. This power directly opposes the Tuning ability of the main Hiizumi family, represented by the protagonist Akina Hiizumi. Through his possession of Gin Nanami, who is a Satori, Enjin also gains access to Satori powers and even claims the ability to use Tuning himself. Additionally, through his conflicts with groups such as the Shidare, he has mastered the principles of Onmyodo, a dimensional science developed by the Senate.

Throughout the series, Enjin serves as a persistent threat whose true nature is gradually revealed. The development of his character culminates in confrontations where the full truth of his existence as a manipulated artifact comes to light. When Oshu Hiizumi appears in the story, the real antagonist behind many events is revealed, and Enjin himself is shown to be destabilized by revelations about his own fabricated existence. His plans ultimately lead to a confrontation where Akina Hiizumi, transformed into a reaper, exposes and defeats him, fully revealing his nature as an artifact rather than a true descendant seeking vengeance.
