Description
Oka Hayasaka, sometimes written as Ouka Hayasaka, is the student council president of Ginsei Private Academy and the older twin sister of Shusui Hayasaka. She is a tall, slim young woman with long purple hair and blue eyes who carries herself with a composed, graceful manner suited to her role at school. She is an excellent student with a sharp mind and a particular talent for hacking and computer engineering. Despite her serene outward appearance, she is also cunning and calculating, and her personal tastes include a fondness for espresso.
Oka's early life was shaped by hardship. She and her brother were kidnapped as children and kept in an apartment by a woman they believed to be their mother, who abused them. When that woman died, the twins were taken to a hospital, where they learned that their birth parents did not want them. They ran away and lived on the streets until they were found by the L.X.E., an organization of humanoid homunculi, and taken in as familiars, the human followers of the group. In exchange for their loyalty, the twins asked to be turned into homunculi themselves so they could remain together for eternity.
Her personality is defined by a contrast between her controlled surface and her inner complexity. Her buso renkin familiar, a small autonomous robot called Angel Gozen, is hyperactive and sarcastic, and it is said to express the side of Oka that she normally keeps hidden within her subconscious, revealing a more layered character than her quiet demeanor suggests. She is reserved, even more so than her twin brother, but she is kind beneath her cool exterior.
Oka's central motivation is her bond with her brother. Her desire to stay with Shusui forever guides her choices, and her loyalty to those who took them in stems from the same need for security and permanence. After the L.X.E. fell apart, she and Shusui began working for Papillon for the purpose of saving Kazuki Muto from being killed. They later helped in the fight against Victor and joined forces with the Alchemist Army in the final mission to defeat Papillon.
In the story, she begins as an opposing figure. Along with her brother, she was armed with kakugane provided by the L.X.E. and fought against Kazuki Muto and Tokiko Tsumura, but the twins were defeated and nearly killed by Tokiko before Kazuki intervened. Her role then shifts as she moves from serving the L.X.E. to cooperating with Papillon and ultimately with the Alchemist Army, while never abandoning her commitment to her brother.
Her notable ability is her buso renkin, which takes the form of a bow and the robot Angel Gozen. The bow can fire arrows at high speed with considerable accuracy, and Angel Gozen can be used as a communication device as well as a combat aid. She also has access to a special arrow that absorbs an opponent's damage and reflects it, and her techniques tend to rely on disrupting and unnerving her opponents rather than overpowering them. Her direct combat strength is modest compared with other fighters, so she depends on her intellect, precision, and technical skill in battle.
