TV-Series
Description
Mahiro Muto is the younger sister of the series' main protagonist, Kazuki Muto, and a first-year high school student at Ginsei Private Academy, where she lives in the school dormitory. She is fifteen years old, born on February 29th, and is a slim girl with long, plum-colored hair that reaches her waist, framing her face with two long bangs and one short strand between her eyes. Her typical attire is the Ginsei Academy female uniform, a pale yellow dress with puffy sleeves, a blue tie, a white petticoat, and a blue and white armband.

In terms of personality, Mahiro is very optimistic and shares a nearly identical disposition to her brother, leading the main heroine, Tokiko Tsumura, to refer to her as a female version of Kazuki. She is highly supportive of her older brother, often checking up on him and even lending him her physical education uniform when needed. She adores Tokiko and immediately accepts her, looking forward to the day Kazuki and Tokiko will marry so she can truly call Tokiko her big sister. Her school nickname is Mappy.

Mahiro's role in the story is primarily that of a civilian close to the protagonist, which often places her in danger due to the activities of the alchemical monsters known as Homunculi. Her initial encounter with the series' central conflict is traumatic; she is devoured whole by a Homunculus named Mita but is rescued when her brother uses his Buso Renkin, or alchemical weapon, to save her. After this incident, she does not fully remember the details, chalking it up to a strange dream or a fall, and remains largely unaware of the secret war her brother fights. Despite her ignorance of the supernatural battles, she serves as a key part of Kazuki's motivation to fight, as he seeks to protect her and his friends.

Her key relationships are centered on her family and her brother's circle. Her bond with Kazuki is the most significant, defined by her trust and willingness to follow his instructions, even when she does not understand the situation. She also forms a quick and affectionate bond with Tokiko, treating her like an admired older sister figure. Within the academy, she is friends with her classmates, including Chisato and Saori, and is often seen in the company of Kazuki's close friends, Okakura, Daihama, and Rokumasu.

Over the course of the narrative, Mahiro does not undergo a dramatic transformation into a warrior herself but demonstrates a developing awareness of the dangers surrounding her. While she initially dismisses the supernatural events as dreams, she eventually realizes the truth of what her brother has become. In moments of crisis, she exhibits courage, such as when she stands in front of her friends to protect them from a Homunculus that breaks into their classroom. Her development is less about gaining power and more about showing quiet resilience and an unshakeable support for her brother's mission, even as she remains a normal high school student in extraordinary circumstances.

As a normal human, Mahiro possesses no supernatural abilities or a Buso Renkin of her own. Her strengths are her unwavering optimism, her emotional support for the main characters, and her ability to maintain a sense of normalcy. Her most notable moments in battle are purely as a victim or a passive participant, such as being hypnotized by an enemy's sound-based weapon and being compelled to attack Tokiko, an event she later believes was a strange dream.
