Description
Dalsiena Che Matelna, often called Shena by those close to her, is a character from the anime and light novel series Chrome Shelled Regios. She is a student of the academy city Zuellni and a member of its Military Arts, the student-led force responsible for defending the city from contaminant life forms. Shena initially serves as the Assistant Commander, or vice-captain, of the 10th Platoon, a position she holds while in her fourth year at the academy. She is also known to be the daughter of the city's mayor. Shena is noted to have a fan club within Zuellni, highlighting her popularity among the student body.

In terms of appearance, Dalsiena is a young woman with long, curly blond hair and yellow eyes. Her typical uniform consists of the standard blue and white Military Arts top, a cream shirt, a red tie, and a short white skirt, paired with black and white thigh-high boots. When engaging in combat, she wears a distinctive red battle uniform that is standard for the 10th Platoon, along with a custom-made white helmet designed to accommodate her voluminous hair. The light novel describes her as possessing a beauty that can overshadow the lights in a room, often presenting a cold and frosty expression that, when melted away, reveals a warm and radiant smile.

Her personality is marked by a strong sense of pride and duty, which can make her sensitive to failure and shame, particularly after a significant loss in combat. This seriousness is balanced by a deep sense of loyalty and a personal commitment to her vows. Her primary motivation is to protect Zuellni, a goal she shares with her former platoon mates, Sharnid Elipton and Dinn Dee. Together, the three were once a formidable team, achieving a top-class assault rating among all platoons in Zuellni, driven by the memory and ideals of their former captain. This shared vow to keep their city safe is a central pillar of her character, and she feels a profound sense of betrayal when Sharnid leaves the 10th Platoon, confronting him directly to demand an explanation for breaking their promise.

Dalsiena's role in the story is primarily as a supporting character, representing the established and more traditional Military Arts groups within Zuellni. Her key relationships define much of her development. Her bond with her captain, Dinn Dee, is particularly significant, as she reveals in episode fourteen that she loves him. This connection becomes crucial in a major story event when a Fallen One, a type of parasitic being, possesses Dinn, and it falls to Dalsiena to find a way to separate him from the spirit. Her relationship with Sharnid is another cornerstone; though initially marked by anger over his departure, it is through him that she comes to understand that others, including the newer members of the 17th Platoon, share the same ideals of protecting the city. This realization helps her let go of the burden of trying to uphold their vow alone.

Over the course of the story, Dalsiena undergoes notable development. She moves from being a prideful and rigidly duty-bound vice-captain to a more flexible and collaborative individual. This change is most clearly demonstrated when she is recruited by Sharnid to join the 17th Platoon to fill a gap left by an injured Layfon Alseif. She becomes a full-time member of this platoon, even continuing to train and fight alongside them after Layfon returns to active duty, signifying a major shift in her allegiances and personal journey.

In battle, Dalsiena is a capable and experienced fighter. Her chosen weapon, or DITE, is a jousting lance that can transform into a white broadsword when the situation requires it, showcasing her versatility in combat. This transformation allows her to adapt between piercing attacks on the move and close-quarters slashing maneuvers.
