Description
Gorneo Lueckens is a character from the anime and light novel series Chrome Shelled Regios. He is a twenty-year-old male with short silver hair and green eyes, often bearing a harsh or stern expression that contrasts with his otherwise charming features. In his daily life at the academy, he wears the standard blue and white uniform of the Military Arts Department over a cream shirt and red tie. When engaging in combat, he switches to a typical black battle uniform.

Gorneo hails from the city of Glendan, where he was born into the distinguished Luckens family. He is the younger brother of Savaris Qaulafin Luckens, a powerful Heaven's Blade wielder. Despite their shared bloodline and similar fighting techniques, the brothers do not share a close bond; Savaris is largely indifferent toward Gorneo and considers his skills to be mediocre. As a student at the mobile academy city of Zuellni, Gorneo is a fifth-year student and serves as the captain of the 5th Platoon within the Military Arts Department, a position that speaks to his experience and capability.

Personality-wise, Gorneo is portrayed as a serious and principled individual. He holds a strong sense of justice and respect for the proper order of military arts, which fuels a deep-seated resentment toward the protagonist, Layfon Alseif. This animosity stems from an incident back in Glendan, where Layfon seriously and permanently injured Gorneo’s senior and close friend, Gahard Vallen. Gorneo had looked up to Gahard as a brother figure, in contrast to his own cold sibling, and thus viewed Layfon’s actions as unforgivable. Adding to his disdain, Gorneo is also aware that Layfon participated in illegal matches in the past, a fact he considers dishonorable for a military artist. However, as the story progresses, this resentment gradually fades after Gorneo learns the full truth behind the incident with Gahard, allowing him to finally make peace with the past and visit his friend's grave to mourn properly.

Gorneo's most significant relationship within Zuellni is with his platoon member, Shante Laite. The two are almost always seen together, sharing a bond that is complex and ambiguous, described alternately as being like siblings or like lovers. Gorneo has taken it upon himself to care for Shante, who was raised by wild animals and therefore lacks conventional social graces and thought patterns. For five years, he has worked to guide her behavior onto the right track, and he recognizes that her feral instincts make her a powerful and unpredictable fighter. It is Gorneo who taught Shante the fighting techniques of the Luckens family, and the two form a formidable combat duo, often called the strongest spear of Zuellni. While Shante clearly recognizes Gorneo as an object of romantic affection, he is initially slower to acknowledge such feelings, though his own emotions become more complex as the story continues.

As a military artist, Gorneo is a highly capable fighter of "Top Class" ability. He uses a Ruby DITE and wields gauntlets as his primary weapons. His combat style is the Lukens style, which he shares with his brother Savaris. He specializes in a technique known as the Fire Lotus Sutra, and though he has not fully mastered its highest levels, he is considered the strongest user of this technique within Zuellni due to its rarity in the academy city. His skill is such that Layfon later asks for his help in training another student, Naruki Gerni, in this technique. Gorneo is also a competent and respected leader whose command abilities are crucial to the success of the 5th Platoon.

His role in the story is multifaceted. He initially serves as an antagonist of sorts to Layfon, revealing the protagonist's secret past as a former Heaven's Blade Keeper to Nina Antalk and the 17th Platoon. Over time, despite their history, the two are forced to cooperate on several occasions, and Gorneo reluctantly puts aside his grudge for the sake of their shared duties, such as when he agrees to a request from Shante that involves Layfon. Through these interactions, he provides insight into the politics and history of Glendan, a background he understands intimately due to his family’s long and secretive history with the city’s rulers. Eventually, his development leads him to accept a greater leadership role, becoming the new head of the Military Arts Department after the student council undergoes a change in leadership.
