TV-Series
Description
Mei-Shen Trinden is a first-year student at the academy city of Zuellni, where she is enrolled in the Liberal Arts Department with a focus on culinary studies. She originates from the transport city of Yoltem. In appearance, Mei-Shen is a petite girl with a modest stature, though she possesses a well-proportioned figure. She has long black hair, which she often styles with two small braids that fall past her shoulders and four distinct fringes sticking out at the back, and her eyes are green. Her typical outfit consists of an orange blazer and a matching skirt.

In terms of personality, the depiction of Mei-Shen varies significantly between the anime and manga adaptations of the story, with the anime portrayal being the most commonly referenced. In the anime, Mei-Shen is defined by her extreme shyness and timidity. She rarely initiates conversation and is easily flustered, often to the point of crying when nervous or frightened. In such situations, she typically looks to her more outgoing friends for protection. Despite this reserved nature, she can be driven by curiosity, which once led her to secretly read a letter addressed to Layfon. However, she is fundamentally honest and possesses a strong sense of right and wrong, as shown when she confessed to her transgression, believing he deserved a proper apology. Her defining passion is cooking, which she considers her only real skill, and she dreams of one day becoming a professional baker. In contrast, the manga version of her character is notably more cheerful, friendly, and not shy around others.

Mei-Shen's primary motivation throughout the story is her romantic feelings for the protagonist, Layfon Wolfstein Alseif. She falls deeply in love with him after he saves her life during a violent brawl on the day of the entrance ceremony. This event shapes her actions, as she constantly seeks to express her affection and gratitude through her culinary talents, most notably by preparing daily lunches and sandwiches for him. Her role in the larger narrative is that of a classmate and a gentle, supportive presence, though she is not directly involved in the military or combat-centric main plot.

Her key relationships are with her two closest friends and constant companions, Naruki Gerni and Mifi Rotten. The three are childhood friends from Yoltem, and their families have known each other for two generations. Naruki and Mifi are much more assertive than Mei-Shen and actively encourage and support her romantic pursuit of Layfon, often acting as intermediaries or setting up situations for them to spend time together. Mei-Shen's relationship with Layfon is central to her character, defined by her one-sided love, her inability to communicate her feelings directly, and her persistent acts of service through cooking.

Throughout the series, Mei-Shen experiences subtle but notable development. Initially paralyzed by her own shyness, she begins to show small signs of bravery and initiative, such as seeking a part-time job at a sweet shop, driven by her desire to become more capable and worthy of Layfon. Her emotional journey involves moments of deep insecurity and self-doubt, particularly when she compares herself to other women in Layfon's life or confronts her own feelings of jealousy. This culminates in a significant moment of growth when she ultimately confesses her feelings to Layfon, accepting his rejection as a conclusion to her long-held affection.

Mei-Shen does not possess any combat abilities or weapons, as she is a civilian student. Her notable abilities lie entirely in the domestic and culinary arts. She is an exceptionally skilled cook, with a particular talent for baking and making desserts like sweets and cakes. This skill is her primary means of contributing to her peer group and expressing her care for Layfon, as she consistently uses her cooking to bring people together and show her appreciation.
