Description
Kyoko Iwase is a supporting character in Initial D: Battle Stage 2. She is a twenty-year-old woman who stands 166 centimeters tall. Kyoko is the ace uphill driver of her hometown team in the Saitama region, which is part of the larger Northwest Saitama Alliance. She is known for her skill and confidence behind the wheel, driving a black 1993 Efini RX-7 Type R, chassis code FD3S. Her car is distinct from the similarly modeled FD driven by Keisuke Takahashi, as hers is equipped with a single turbocharger rather than a twin-turbo setup.

Kyoko has a unique perspective on relationships, stating that she is not interested in any man unless he can drive faster than her. She places an even more specific condition on this, preferring a potential partner who also drives an FD3S RX-7, as she finds driving more enjoyable than spending time with random men. This perspective changes when she encounters Keisuke Takahashi of Project D. She sees him and his car, and immediately develops a strong crush on him. This attraction creates an internal conflict for her when it is revealed that Project D will be coming to her area for a battle. She is torn between her duty to defeat Project D as her team's ace and her personal feelings for her opponent.

During the battle with Keisuke, Kyoko demonstrates her considerable driving talent. She leads for a significant portion of the race, forcing Keisuke to admire her skills from behind. However, Keisuke is able to analyze her car's weakness. He notices that her single-turbo FD has a more peaky power output and noticeable turbo lag compared to his own twin-turbo model. He uses this to his advantage by nudging her car, causing her to adjust the throttle and lose her turbo boost, which allows him to overtake and win.

Following her loss, Kyoko's feelings for Keisuke continue to grow. She tries to watch his subsequent battles and even travels to his home course of Akagi to confess her feelings. Keisuke, however, rejects her advances, explaining that he cannot allow himself to be distracted by a romantic relationship as he is focused on reaching a higher competitive level, particularly with his rival Takumi Fujiwara. Although she is hurt, Kyoko later plays a crucial role in Project D's campaign. After Keisuke damages his own FD in an accident caused by a rival team, Kyoko selflessly offers him her own car to use in the next race. Despite the loaned FD being different from his own, Keisuke adapts and wins the race using her car.

As a reward for her help, Keisuke takes Kyoko on a date. On a drive to Akagi, he opens up to her about his past as a reckless thug and his passion for cars. Ultimately, he reaffirms his decision to focus solely on Project D and his goals as a driver, ending any possibility of a romantic relationship. Kyoko accepts his decision but asks for one final experience: to feel his driving skills from the passenger seat. Keisuke agrees and drives her down the pass at extreme speed. This marks her final appearance in the storyline.
